I inherited a Savage 99 from an old friend who unfortunately won't be hunting anymore. I thought it might be cool to refresh this rifle with a new bluing job and then refinishing the stock & forearm.

Can anyone suggest someone in the GTA or southern Ontario who could turn this old hunter back into a real looker?

Thanks in advance!

I agree with Marshal on this one. If you don't care about the value then go for it.
i can help ya out.

You might regret refinishing your friends M99 as it's only original once. . A M99 with worn blung and a stock that shows it's been used has a classic look all it's own. .

I'm not into guns for money, I'm in for fun. Love the idea of taking something old and having it made like new again. I'm impressed with this 99 ..... I'm a BLR guy (don't hate me) but I can see the appeal of the 99, points beautifully, super light. Reminds me of a light sabre. "An elegant weapon for a more civilized age".

I had to use a savage 99 to “ get it”

I like the look of the straight grip ones if I squint. BLR is a better looking gun imo

If the lever has decent case colour, leave it alone when you reblue the rifle. The lever on old 99's and 1899's was not blued.
Collectibility is based on age, model, and chambering as well as condition. If you have a more common 99, I don't see a compelling reason not to refinish. And I love 99's and have owned well past a dozen.

My 99F is like me , well used and a bit scruffy , I like it that way . That being said , it's your rifle and if you want to clean it up some , there's nothing wrong with that , I've refinished a few rifles myself over the years . It may effect the value if it's a scarce or collectable model , but if that isn't a concern , there's no reason not to .
