who carries 7.62x54r?

I have done the same thing, bought a 1891/30 for my first rifle and love it, however the ammo is sometimes scarce. I have found some cases in ontario and some part cases there to but shipping to AB would suck. Milarm in edmonton had some boxes before at 11/box of 20, i was buying that and they probably still have some.
Saw some at a gun show for 15/box, all surplus. I have had good luck with PRVI at a shop in bonnyville at 20/box.
But now it's easy to find, cause i just have to walk into the basement. I got set up with a Lee anniversary kit, all the brass from the PRVI i shot and off to the races. I would say if you comfortable reloading just save the headache and buy a setup, if not then post up in the EE for a WTB and you'll find some, might not be next door to you but it's out there.

I really like my Mosin 91/30 and next year i will try to get an SVT 40 as well

Supposedly the SVT-40 really destroys the casings, so be careful not to fire boxer (reloadable) shells through it. The recharging is so violent that it dents the case beyond repair (for reload), according to some sources.
Personally, I don't have an SVT-40 and never fired one, so this is just what I hear... you may want to confirm this info with people who shoot that particular gun. Better be safe than sorry, because commercial ammo is expen$ive!

Just a quick note to the newbies. You may already know this, but most military surplus 7.62x54 will be corrosive. This doesn't mean you can't shoot it in your rifles, you just have to be religious about cleaning them after shooting it. Boiling hot water is the best way to get rid of the corrosive salts in the barrel & action. Be careful & don't burn yourself.
Contrary to rumor, the SVT-40 is NOT hard on ammo if you adjust the gas valve correctly.

Thanks for that clarification. Actually, I just ordered my first SVT-40 today and will be picking it up tomorrow. I'll definitely look into the gas port adjustment settings so that the precious boxer 7.62x54R can serve more than once.
Any further info on how to do the proper adjustment, by any chance (links, instructions, etc)? Thanks in advance!

I own a Svt-40 and I use it religiously ( as long as they have ammo at Milarm in Edmonton
) The cases come out of the breech with flute vents on the casing neck from the expansion of said casing in the breech. Not exactly what I would use to reload with, sorry. Besides at 10 bucks for a box of 20, its cheaper to buy milsurp. No offense but its better to find a more "recent" rifle to do some serious shooting with!
