Heard these are great for the 700 in 308. Don't want to get into the work of reloading yet and have tried other hunting remington and winchesters. Did not want to buy the winchester partitions that are like $40+. I am in ontario and have no idea who carries the Federal 168gr, want to give them a try. Any CGN sponsors carry them? I am in Ontario

Thanks

If you don't want to spend $40 on winchester partitions wait until you see the price of match ammo:eek: For the price of 10 boxes (200 rounds) of match ammo, you can set yourself up with a nice reloading kit and make your own ammo that suits your rifle. Just because it says "Match" on the box doesn't always mean it will shoot bug hole size groups out of your rifle.

For my rifle at least, these rounds are no less than GEMS. My best shots have been with these; you can get some at CRAFM or Dante Sports, but be warned: they are pricey - about 47$ + tax/box! Back when the dollar was stronger, you could get them for 9$ less... That having been said, but 10+ and you'll probably get a discount.

Hope they're worth it. Try a box first - not all match ammo will work well with your rifle, e.g. Hornady Match doesn't work as well in my rifle (it might in yours).

It won't take too many boxes of this stuff before you have paid for a basic reloading set-up.

This ammo is just Federal ammo with a Sierra Matchking bullet. No special brass, or powder tolerances. Tuning a load for optimal seating depth and minimal variation in powder loads will make a huge difference to your rifle's performance.

If your buying this stuff you should consider reloading as others suggested. Pick up some as a baseline and tune from there.

Williams Arms in Port Perry & Gannon (sp?) Sports in Oshawa typically have it.

corlanes in dawson creek carries lapua match 167gr which in myopinion shoots alot better..... my 308 likes the 185gr lapua over the 175gr GM.... but frankly the difference may just be me as I have never measured groups and they are all small to begin with.

Bass- Pro in Calgary has Federal gold Medal as well as Reimington Match, in 168 Gr.
The Remington was just under $30 a box.
The Toronto store may have similar stock.

I know reloading is eventually the way to go to acheive better accuracy and consistency. I just don't have the time right now and have no choice but to buy factory. I am going to be prepared for 300 plus yards at Borden this month.

All I use is Federal Gold Medal Match .308 in 168 and 175 grain.

The best price I got was from Wolverine, but they're out of stock at the moment and have it on order.

For reloading I found the following info:

Bullet: 168gr BTHP
Powder Weight: 41.5 gr
Powder: VVN150
Velocity: 2,650 fps
OAL: 2.80"
Primer: CCI SP

Close duplication of Federal Gold Medal Match load using Vhita Vouri Powder. Used in Springfield M1A rifle with Medium Weight barrel. Muzzle Velocity is at 2650. Bullets used 168 gr Sierra HPBT or Nosler J4’s. Brass and primers by Federal.

If it's the 18th, I'll see you there. Reloading is THE way to go...make time.

Just because you reload doesn't mean it either. If the shooter or the rifle isn't up to the task, it won't make a difference. Reloading is a pita and very time consuming in my opinion, but you can ask 5 guys and get 7 opinions so the decision is yours.

Tuning a load to your rifle along with the cost savings far out-weigh the PITA of reloading. I shoot about 1000 rounds or more of match ammo a year during matches and practices. My pockets are not deep enough to buy this much match ammo. .308, 168 gr match ammo does not work at 1000 yards and the rules under which I shoot only allows up to 156 gr max bullet weight.
I do agree however if you are only loading a couple hundred rounds or less a year reloading is not worth your effort unless you are loading for some wildcat cartridge or something obsolete.
I do not know of any Canadian competitive shooters that shoot store bought match ammo.
