Who chambers .280 rem?

I was looking through the three big shops, and some of the small ones, and I'm having a hell of a time finding a .280, specifically in a Tikka or sako.

who chambers in this caliber??

A Pal of mine has a Weatherby MK V Ultra Lightweight in .280 Remington. I checked the Weatherby website only to find that it appears to have been dropped in favor of the .270 Winchester. Apparently Weatherby thinks a difference in diameter of .007" hardly seems worth quibbling about, but I would prefer a .280 for the bullet selection if nothing else.
 
Believe you're SOL for a Tikka or Sako in .280 Rem. Rem M700's, Browning X-Bolts, TC Encores and Ventures and Weatherby Mk V(still around) come in .280.
The 7-08 Rem case is .505" shorter than the .280. .53" shorter OAL. The .280 won't fit in the 7-08 Rem mag.
 
There are some old Remmy's around. I have shot one of the old Remington 725's in .280 Rem. What a gun. Lots of power in a light compact package. Good caliber. Hard to find ammo in most gun shops however. Not a problem if you reload though!
 
There is a gun store that has the limited edition (engraved floorplate) 700 CDL SF in .280 on clearence for $919. Non sponsor so pm if interested. I believe its the engraved model as Iam not sure they offered the .280 in the regular version. But double check if you phone.

How expensive/easy is it to find someone to do it for me?

Also, whats the difference between a .280 rem and .280 AI.

I'll probably go with a Ruger or Winchester.
A little disappointing Tikka doesn't make one.
 
If you were in the market for a sako you could check out a Cooper. For only a couple hundred more bucks than a sako 85 you can have a nice Cooper in .280 or .280ai. Check the ee for the prophet river ad and check them out.

My first Kimber is waiting for the strike to be over to deliver....if it's as nice as I hope then one of those selects might be in the future:)
 
You can still get a .280 in a Remington Mountain rifle. They only sell the laminated stainless version brand new, but there are some blued/walnut used ones kicking around. I have 2 and love'em. I got realy lucky last September. I went in to WSS looking to get a .30-06 in the Mtn rifle LSS. They had one, but there was something about that rifle that made me pass on it. I don't remember what. Then the sales guy said that he recently found in the back a blued/walnut Mtn rifle in .280 with the DM. It was brand new, never out of the box. Remington hasn't been making these for several years; only the LSS versions. So, even though I already had a .280 in a Mtn Rifle, I bought it anyway. Then in October I went back and found a .30-06 in LSS that I did like.

The m700 mountain rifles have a bad reputation for being weak in the acuraccy department, but out of the 3 I own, none won't do 1" or better at 100 yards... when I find the right load for it.
