I have some IVI 71 marked 5.56mm Ball. Who did we make it for back then? I know Australia was using M16A1`s in Vietnam.

A good war now and again is necessary for a strong economy. Opportunistic (or maybe not:nest:) capitalism at its finest :) After the dust settles, greece should start making guns.

Bullets, artillery, bombs, everything....we heavily supplied the US in Vietnam.

My father-in-law worked for Acme Screw and Machine, a small plant in Aurora that finished 81mm mortar casings and made and fitted the obturating rings.

Is that a subsidiary where Wile E. Coyote bought all his stuff from? :p

I made the same comment 20 years ago.;)

Another victim of the CAW.

Company said they couldn't afford the UAW's demands.
Union said "Suck it,we're going on strike."
90 minutes after the pickets went up, a parade of flat beds arrived with millwrights. The dies and molds left at the end of the day.

@diemaco ... Cool! Plant still there, making chlorates now for bleaching stuff.. new owners too, Albright & Wilson maybe? (Been too long).

Anyways... I remember those big tank cars full of Willy Pete heading south to the US and then over to the Nam. No secret about it... everyone knew it was getting dumped on Mr. Victor Charles, just good business back then, I guess. No protests or anything that I can remember.
Anyways.. different world back then for sure.

The only Aussies I even saw had FN/L1A1s..............

Australia used the M16 in Viet Nam "issued to scouts, section commanders and specialised units" "Australian Service Rifles" Skennerton
Local firm made mortar bomb and rocket caseings for US.

yea, but those "attached" to amercan units carried the m16-esp the xm177 so that a commonality of ammo could be maintained- those that served on the boats did as well

When I was in Austrailia training with 8/9 RAR they had two M16s per section and one M60 MG per section. Plus one M60 in Pl HQ. I carried it. Pl comd and Pl 2i/c, weapons det also had M16s.

The things you all mention were indeed produced by Canada. They were indeed used by the US. We made them as components which were sent to the US and assembled there.
