Who did we make 5.56mm for in 1971?

I have some IVI 71 marked 5.56mm Ball. Who did we make it for back then? I know Australia was using M16A1`s in Vietnam.

yea, but those "attached" to amercan units carried the m16-esp the xm177 so that a commonality of ammo could be maintained- those that served on the boats did as well

When I was in Austrailia training with 8/9 RAR they had two M16s per section and one M60 MG per section. Plus one M60 in Pl HQ. I carried it. Pl comd and Pl 2i/c, weapons det also had M16s.

The things you all mention were indeed produced by Canada. They were indeed used by the US. We made them as components which were sent to the US and assembled there.
