Kind of new to the 1911 game and looking at a nice series 70 colt. It has the nickel finish but it's looking a little tired. Anyone know of a smith out there who can redo this thing so it looks as close to original as possible?

Thanks

Would a can of brasso shine 'er up?

That is not the same finish the top one is satin nickel the bottom is just nickel

If you want to nickel it you would have to send that to a smith its a pricey job probly 200 bux to strip it correct alone then add the cost of the nickel dipping and polishing

Why dont you like satin nickel ????

"Would a can of brasso shine 'er up?" NO you wont rub off that finish you would have to sand it off and by sand I mean sand or bead blast dont try this your self with sand papper it will just cost you more to fix it and your gun will be worth a lot less if you bubba it...

For me I have a brushed satin nickel fame and I love it there is not many around from what I see on here I see just the dipped satin like #1 pic

Thanks for the info... didn't realise it was a different finish.
Satin nickel's not bad... just like the nickel finish a little more.

If the top pic is your pistol from what I see the finish looks fine I would leave it alone and guard that baby colts are getting hard to find :)

Wait it looks like the bottom one is just polished its not even nickel I cant zoom into it to see but to me looks like it hit a buffer wheel its not even shiny and the steel looks like its oxidizing on the slide could just be a bad camara shot tho
