I've got an old Savage 1915 in 380 and I want to have the frame and slide parkerised in nickel, I'll add some repro ivory grips down the road but I wanna get the nickel done first.

Also, is it cheaper for parkerising than having it reblued? Some of the sites I've been to seem to say that they want $50 plus the regular bluing fee, that makes no sense to me.

The frame and slide are pitted so I'm not to worried about losing any collector value in it even though there were only 3900 1915's made in 380. I've already got a nice 1915 in 380 and I got this one for parts but it seems to be pretty functional so I've decided to make it into a nice shooter.

I've already taken it down and cleaned it. When I went to put it back together I jammed the slide and when I went to unjam it I ran my hand into the back of the frame and opened myself up pretty good, 3 stitches in the muscle and 7 in the meat.

I think I'll leave it in the box for awhile.;)

No, didn't even think of something like that.

I can dig into a 99 a fix some problems and rebarrel and stuff like that but I don't know if I'd trust myself doing a refinishing, be scared to screw it up. I'll do a search on this stuff and see what I can come up with.

If any idiot can do it then that puts me right up there for the job.

I'm confused. Do you want this thing nickel plated or parkerised? Two very different things, parkerising is a dark grey/black finish, it will help to hide some marks and pitting somewhat.

I always thought you could get different color types of parkerising? I just wanted a nickel colored look to it, not actually nickeling it.

You may be confusing parkerizing with anodizing, which can be colored...

There are colour variations in parkerizing based on the solution used. Today most favour very dark grey, but light grey to a nearly green have been possible as well. Today you are likely limited to what your gunsmith or refinisher can get in the way of prepared park solution.

Coloured anodizing is an option for aluminum parts.

"...different color(sic) types of parkerising(sic)..." Nope. Parkerizing is shades of grey or black. There's also black phosphating. Same idea as parkerizing, but black only. It's the finish that was on C1A1's, etc.

Actually, there is a guy down here that can duplicate the green tinged, cosmline inpregnated parkerizing of some of those long stored Garands.

O.k., I'm way off on what I wanted done then.

All I want is a pistol frame and slide done in a silver matte color on the outside. Not a true nickel but just a silver matte color.

That what I'm looking for.

I don't know about the nickel issue or different colour tones,
but for carbon steel and some alloys,
Bits of Pieces does real nice parkerizing.
Call them (Bary Jensen owner and operator) and ask questions.
Bits of Pieces is also a sponsor of this site.
They also do armacoat or duracoat (or both).

Haha, perfect, thats where my other pistol is right now getting the barrel done, maybe I could have gotten a 2 for 1 special.:D

This guy here does the best park work I have ever seen. He also does a dark green park which is identical to the old green park of the 40's.

He did my bren and it was flawless. Cant ever tell its been blasted. Alot of people claim to do parking but you can allways tell its been refinished this guy even has perfected sand blasting to the point you cant even tell.

Amazing work.
