Who else loves hunting rabbits?

I enjoy rabbit hunting (cottontails, in my area) just to have a good reason to poke around outdoors with my son on a sunny winter day. But, I don't want a lot of them so we hunt with a .22 (he's been bugging me to let him take the 20ga. and I may give in one time and let him bag a few). Once in a blue moon I'll try with the recurve - that almost guarantees I won't have to clean any. lol

I'd like to get up home (mid-Ottawa Valley) and go after snowshoes again, just for old times' sake.

Snowshoes are available a lot closer to Kingston than Ottawa valley, 30-45min drive max to get on em thick... just saying... :)

Anyone else been out lately? Today we got out for three hours and got two hares. Again my 28 gauge does not disappoint with mod choke.
Everything is highly nervous in our hunting spot the coyotes have been very active lately.
We have yet to be skunked however three hours for two bunnies is much forest stalking.
Ordinarily this amount of hunting time should have led to going home with four, but we often stop at two or three as enough damage for one day.

This place keeps filling up with hares as long as we don't overdo it in one afternoon. It's rather nice to have fruitful trips every week or ten days.

Cheers

Made it out again this afternoon, we've had a warm spell and was hoping all of the snow would have melted away, but there was just enough that there was some white and some brown everywhere, so it made it tough to pick them out in the trees.
We headed to the local army base where i've had my best spots and regularly find a few whenever we go out, but when we started driving around to my normal spots i walk though 4 out of the 5 them were mowed down and flattened, the excavator with the big toothed drum was still there cleaning out the sides of the road, and they had a bobcat with a huge bush hog that had just leveled the whole area. This was bad news for this trip, but good news for the future, they do this every 10 or 15 years and it keeps them from growing too tall and the rabbit moving on to bushier areas.

So we had to improvise and look for some new spots nearby. Managed to get 2 as we crashed through an area that had lots of tracks, poop and races all over the place, but was a little taller and grown up than i would typically hunt through. I'll have to try it again if we get another melt and get rid of some snow.
