Who else's loves using break cleaner on there barrels?

Don't use it, it will do more harm than cleaning. Your shellack will peal and bakelite will melt. Some plastics will be deformed as well. No good will come of it. If you are bent on using it on your firearms then make sure its only metal that you spray it on.
My 2 cents.

I always strip my gun 100% so it only comes in contact with metal. I hear it will ruin plastic, and wood tho. As for damage to the metal, I like to keep in mind its used on much more expensive stuff that your life is dependent on.

I use i all the time for cleaning off grease and oil (vehicles, equipment and guns). I have never had any issues with it harming a synthetic stock either, but I would be careful with wood stocks.

I use it when stripping and cleaning bolts.
I've used it to de cosmo rifles too. But if too much it applied, it will remove blueing. So beware. Also use the non chlorinated can if you have the option.

For blued metal, I've switched to Remington Action Cleaner. Much better and safe on plastics and finishes.

Spray it on a Styrofoam cup, the cup magically disappears. Strong stuff.

The cup dissapears but the sludge left behind doesn't. Had a problem with tens of thousands of coffee cups left around the shop with coffee in them. People were sick of knocking them over spilling coffee on our work. So I went around dousing them in brakleen. It melts the cup down to a bubbling sludge then dries leaving what looks like wet bubbling sludge but is rock hard and fuzed to whatever surface its on. After having to grind coffee cups off of everything, the offending d!ckhead started throwing his coffee cups in the garbage.

I use it to clean my SKS but I only use it on the steel parts and I fully strip it for cleaning. Then I lightly oil the steel parts and run an oiled patch down the barrel.

I use Electrical contact cleaner, or TB cleaner, or whatever I got on the shelf to clean the mosin. Half the time my 22LR gets cleaned with Electrical cleaner, doesn't leave residue like brake wash. Not as strong but what a tooth brush is for. Doesn't turn you brain dead either.

I use brake cleaner a very specialized roll.

Cutting carbon layers out of a badly fouled bore.
Works wonders if you alternate copper solvent, bore paste, and brake cleaner. Repeat as neccessary.
And yes, keep the stuff off any external finishes. I use the injector tube to keep it all inside the bore. Drain muzzle down on a towel.

And ventilation.

Ive used it for spraying out barrels & triggers, Ive always had the stock off first, and spray only on the metal components to be safe.
