Who else's loves using break cleaner on there barrels?

I`ve seen it damage certain plastics too, but that was about 15 yrs ago, formulation may have changed, but i doubt it. i don`t like that it removes ALL the oils that have seeped into the cracks and crannies on a rifle, thereby allowing a chance for rust to get in if you miss oiling any of these places. especially in Southern Ontario.

I only use brake cleaner when cleaning a newly acquired milsurp... and only on the disassembled metal bits. I follow this with a dip in very hot water and, finally, a generous application of gun oïl.

bah thats like using baking soda and vinegar to clear a clogged sink, vs using clear line that comes sealed in a bag with tones of warning labels. I found it wasn't that great.
Hmm I found it to be exactly the same. Just less noxious.

Keep in mind that most brake cleaners contain some pretty nasty stuff. Carbon Tetrachloride, Trichloroethane and Chlorobenzene.
Take proper precautions.

I wear nitrate gloves and only use the non chlorinated type for 30 secs or less in bolts.

Some of the biggest causes of damage to rifle barrels is not corrosive ammunition, but rather mixing chemicals. The biggest caution when using these cleaners would be to make sure you don't mix them - especially with stainless steel.
