I searched and searched, I hate the search tool on this forum.

Anyway I remember a few months back somebody had posted pictures of a leather ammunition holder for the butstock of their lever action Marlin or Winchester big bore rifle. I believe it came from somebody in Alaska. I can not find the thread and did not bookmark it when I should have. I am interested in getting one for my 45-70 and one for my 44 mag.

Can somebody point me in the right direction to the thread or the supplier/manufacturer please?

This one?

They are made by Rob Leahy at Simply Rugged in Alaska. He is awesome to deal with and makes excellent products.

I have bought many items from Rob and will continue to do so for many years to come I'm sure.

Here is what the one Rob made for one of my 45-70's looks like:

A little different than the one posted on his website. I asked for one that held eight, he will custom make to what you want.

Make sure you take it off when you store the rifle. I left mine on for a week and it bubbled the finish on my buttstock. Maybe it had somthing to do with how they finished the leather (wasnt from simply rugged, I can't remember who made it).

I have been looking for a mag pouch for 45-70 rounds that holds about ten rounds; five or so in front and the same number behind. So far all that I have found is either nylon or leather wallet style that holds only a single row of rounds and completely folds out. I wanted a pouch style.

That was your problem.

Treat your gun leather with pure Neatsfoot oil and you will never have a problem. Any leather I use that will touch steel or wood is treated with it and never a problem. Some leather pieces have been on a few of my firearms for many years and they still look like new underneath.

Watch out if they get soaked by rain though, can cause some serious rusting if not taken care of...
