Who has a handi rifle.

Mine is a N.E.F. so it was made long before Remington got ahold of them.

It's a Superlight in .223Remington with an extra barrel (bought used some years later) in .308Winchester. It works as advertised. I like it.

Got one in .44 mag, neat little rifle. Some days it will shoot 3" groups at 100 yds, some days not so good. Pops open and brass hits you in the forehead, ouch! seems to shoot lead bullets much better than jacketed, they tumble. Probably will keep it cause it is sort of unique litttle gun.

Had a few of them. Got rid of them. I always had a cleaning rod with me to knockout the spent brass that randomly wouldn't eject. If you have a scope on one, get a hammer extention.

Still have one in 22-250. Love the cartridge....hate the gun. Popped open on firing most of the time then I filed the lock mech and it only pops open half the time now! Bought it new just about a year ago and plan on getting rid of it.

popping open is a result of a dirty/oily shelf, and not closing it with Authority. you can't just gently close it, it needs a good thump, to seat.

Have one in 45-70.....probably 250-300 rounds through it. Quite accurate, very functional.....no popping open problems. It does sorta look like it got hit with an ugly stick though.:p

I have some with the plastic, they look better but the hollow butt sounds LOUD

sounds like there garbage to me.

i had one in 308 bought new owned it for less then a week before trading it in and taking a big lose

I think they are great for what they are, and I own several, and will be buying several more...

Basic entry level rifles, if you have no bigs expectations, you wont have to many deceptions... JP.

exactly!

yep had luck, all bad! Had about 7 or 8 of them quite a while back, they are now all gone. They were all purchased brand new. Lots of bad luck! Some would pop open the action when fired, some would have the empty cartridge stick in the chamber after being fired, lots would have the hindge knuckle break on them.

what is a knuckle?

the opening issue is a result of poor cleaning of the shelf and latch.
the chamber issue appears to be a Remington issue, and polishing solves the issue, but something that QA should never allow.

Had one in 22-250, accurate and solid barrel, but same thing, would pop open on firing,....and she is gone.

see above

I had one in .223. I didn't have any physical problems with it but it was inaccurate and uncomfortable to shoot.

accuracy can be tweeked, but some don't respond very well, but most can be tuned for hunting accuracy with some time.
how was it uncomfortable?

Isn't Remington involed in making them? I have an old H+R 158 in 30-30 that is MOA or usually 1/2 that that I'd never sell.Wish they'd make them in .303 ....Harold

Yup, Remington bought them out.
a 303Brit??? get a 357mag, fit the barrel on to a SB2 frame, (or with luck, it will come on one) and chamber it!

Have one in 22 and have yet to shoot it, but playing around with it have found the gun pops open even when I here it "click" closed. Have to try and pull open gun to make sure it's locked close. Altough I have read that over oiling can cause this problem, but I not so convinced the amount of oil will cause this. Will wipe out excess oil and shoot it before drawing any conclusions. For a $145.00 I wasn't expecting the world, just hope it shoots safely without opening.

don't be gentle when closing them, treat them like an old shotgun. CLOSE that beotch with some firm authority. they will seat in, and stay closed. as for popping open, see above...

I had one in 270, no problems, nice little hunting rifle but I wasn't comfortable at 200 yards with it, because of the hammer the scope has to be mounted high.

it's fun to hunt with a single but if I get the urge again I would save up and get a Ruger or a Browning, Just sold it a few weeks ago.

they are cheap enough, you can put the extension on them, and bob the hammer. then you can seat the scope much lower. Or get the butt from an Ultra with the high comb.

if you can afford a Ruger or Browning, you can afford 5-6 Handies, THAT is the appeal

Had a few of them. Got rid of them. I always had a cleaning rod with me to knockout the spent brass that randomly wouldn't eject. If you have a scope on one, get a hammer extention.

I think the new ones don't eject, only extract. but even so, I think that issue is a symptom of an oily breech lug, or a rough chamber, both fixable
