Who has actually taken game with a 30-30?

I bought my Marlin 336 new in 1975.After 30 years it gets harder to remember all the kills, but its at least 18 deer.Oh yeah,I missed the odd one too  .Factory ammo and shots from 10 to 100 yds, most under 50,and most were running shots. They all folded up pretty quick with the exception of a doe that I gutshot. It didn't go far, found it standing in a beaver pond 25 yds out.Finished it off and then wade out to drag it back.It wasn't real deep, but it was November and I was up to my balls in cold water.
I'll probably end up with some other deer calibers before the story ends, but the Marlinator 30-30 has served me well.I think I'll go shoot it. GJ

Here is the first "real" rifle I owned. It was given to me by my father when I was 12 or 13.

I shot my first and only elk with that rifle, a young 3 point, along with 3 or 4 moose and about a dozen deer before I was informed the 30-30 was not powerfull enough to kill much more than an emaciated jackrabit. :p Funny but I have never lost an animal I pointed that old rifle at. LoL In fact even now I take it out and shoot the occasional deer with it just to bring back memories.

'Boo: Is that a stud for a saddle ring I see on your 30-30? 8)

Yep it is a stud but the ring is long gone, probably before I was born! LoL

It was built in 1917 and has a 20" barrel not the 18" one common on the newer "carbines"

Not for the last thirty years but that will change. I bought my wife a Stevens 325B in 30-30 and after replacing the main spring it has been fantastic. 170 Hornady Flat points penetrate as well as 250 Speers in the 358 Norma Magnum! The wound channel is smaller but this little guy penetrates and is sub MOA with the right loads.

Wheres JohnYCannuck... and Maddog... those guys prolly killed herds of deer with can-openers  8)

Up at the cottage, killing paper of course!

My old 30-30, has killed more deer than any other gun in camp I think. Many were one shot kills, most were running, or at least walking. I doub't I'll ever part with the old girl.
Other game, include Black bear, rabbits, grouse, woodchuck....
It might go moose hunting this year, if I can't get one of my SMLE's to perform in time.

If not, I'll give you my 356 Model 94 if you want

Now there's a cool idea.
I best work on the SMLE's though, I promissed steve I'd try out his bullets on a moose if I get the chance. I may have to visit Bigredds, to do some fire forming. Unless he's closed the range for the season.

Moose 50 yds.

Bullets broke ribs on both sides. 1 was just under the skin.

He WALKED about 30 feet...

Grandma's deer/coyote/hawk rifle, the one my GrandF lent out. I've heard some good stories....

Like the novice hunter who was left up the cut line... They figured "buck fever" when they heard the 6 shots in rapid sucession.

They really weren't expecting the 4 dead moose

My dad's marlin has put down quite a few deer up to 200 yards. It was my hunting rifle for 5-6 years and i've never taken a shot where it did not work properly using both 150 and 170 grainers.
I now use the 270 to be able to take 300-350 yard shots.

Shot my 1st Muley Buck with a 30-30, 1 shot 25 yards, down he went
Also shot my 1st Black Bear with the same rifle, again 1 shot about 50 yards and down he went too
These are the two 30-30's I favour nowadays...

My Late Mother took her 1st Deer as a teenager with the top one.......
It's a 1893 Marlin 26" barrel. Great Bore and it puts 170 hardcasts one on top of another all day, I still take it out from time to time 8)
Lower one was a Gift from my Father about 20 years ago.........
20" barreled Winchester model 94 "PCMR" issue with sling etc.
Shoots dam good too, I've taken several Blackies with this one 8)

Another vote for the Marlin 336C. It is proof that it is the RIFLE and not the round that matters
Seven moose, two deer, one black bear. Then bought a 30-06 and it only has one black bear to its credit.
But then my idea of hunting is actually going out into the bush for the hunt, tracking the animal, out thinking it, out manuvering it and then taking the shot that is usually within 100 yards.
Now, I have never hunted Antelope or done any wide open praire hunting so cannot comment in that regards
