As far as I'm aware, the Ragner is now a discontinued model.
This was supposed to be a special contract for the Canadian Rangers, but they ended up picking Tikka at almost double the price.
It is my understanding that CZ just decided to sell off their already made 557 Ranger models to the civilian market and call it a day.

These are some sort of CZ substitute for the real range rifles they discontinued, I managed to get one and they are very different, the one at Prophet has a thin walnut stock in curved european fashion like the lux, only one sling swivel and looks like a thinner barrel profile,and like you said, no iron sights, the original is a much more robust gun with a nice beachwood stock in american style

250m seems like a very long shot with a 7.62x39. probably over 10in of drop and not much energy left.
Anyway, if you do get a 557 in 308 be aware they aren't all short actions.
So, I bought a 557 Ranger from one of the site sponsors last week. Took it to the range today with a scope on just to check how well it shoots and I was quite impressed. Cheap PMC ammo and my 150gr FMJBT handloads printed 1.5-2" @ 100m and my 168 SMK handloaded copycats of Federal GMM grouped just slightly under 1" at 100m. Those were all 5 shot groups. I'm waiting for a NECG peep sight now.. This rifle is a fun shooter.
where did you find the Ranger, or is one of the new "non rifle sight" ones with the European stock?
I have no idea why CZ would do away with the iron sights and range stock, that seemed like a winning combination.

My 557 Lux in 8x57 is close enough. I prefer the walnut Bavarian stocks for iron sights (and aesthetics) and I prefer using rings that make use of CZ's dovetails.
I doubt it, just be patient
