Take off the pig-sticker and it gets even lighter, assuming that you want it lighter to carry while hunting. The bayo offers no practical use for hunting.

My Type 56 is my favorite plinker one reason is because of the weight however for Hunting I absolutely agree the Bayo should come off, i keep the Bayo on only because of the Historical Value and try to keep the Rifle as original as possible and i only use it for Target shooting....i am a hopeless traditionalist...

Good Point, I have made a few minor changes to my Rifle...added a Receiver mount type Scope and i bought a clamp on Bipod but you're right as long as it can be returned to original condition removing the Bayo isn't a bad idea.

My '53 Tula weighs 8.4 lbs with bayonet, cleaning rod, and the cleaning kit installed in the butt.

I'll update if I get a chance to weigh it with anything removed.

I'm using a digital Ohaus scale with a 0.2 lb resolution.

Mag Loaded and fully dressed? (bayo,rod,cleaning kit) and pics aswell?

Ok, it's now reassembled after decosmo'ing.

Without: bayonet, cleaning rod/kit, sling
With: everything else, include sling swivel (no ammo)
7.6 lbs

... I think what the OP means is who's got the lightest, period. I suspect a tapco t6 with original mag and no cleaning kit, cleaning rod, or bayo, with original sights would be the lightest set-up possible for these babys. Without of course cutting off or removing the bayo-lug.

Anyone have an anorexic SKS they can weigh for us?

The rules are mag in and empty, sights affixed, Rifle ready to rock, just add ammo.
