Hello everyone. I just wanted to get some feed back about this ammo. I recently purchased a 1600 round case of this junk from a store that will remain nameless (for now) and had nothing but problems with it, so far shot 120 rounds. The bullet tip would sometimes get pressed into the brass case, the rifle would short stroke or on the last round it not keep the BCG in the locked back position with the empty mag and worst of all primers were breaking free from the case, lodgging themselves into the barrel extension and impeding my rifle from going into battery. The store that I purchased the ammo from tried to tell me it was my rifle but when I went and bought 20 rounds of Sellier & Bellot .223 match grade it ran great.

Had no problems with it. Have run it in 7.5, 14.5 and 16 inch AR barrels without problems. It is the only stuff that doesn't cause FTE in my vz58 11 inch gun so far. In that gun AE and Winchester have all had FTE and stovepipes.

Not the most accurate stuff, but goes bang every time for me.

I have literally run 1000s of.rds of the Yellow Box 5.56 thru a few of my firearms including a custom build that I have four grand into. and never a problem.....lots of flash and a little bit dirty but other than that.....I will buy more when I need to..

It's inconsistent 20 year old Chinese surplus ammo... I bought some too, first 400 rounds about 4 issues. I won't buy it again but it goes bang when I'm shooting off my hip. 8)

Use it in a VZ, lots of flash and a little hotter. Had the velocity stats but threw them out. Dirty to a point, decent accuracy and cheap like borscht so good to go.

I don't use it in my Savage FCP.

I've run 800 rounds of it through my 16.5 and 10.5 AR with only one ammo related stoppage (most are @$#&ing stupid 5 round mag issues).

My shooting buddy has blown through over 3000 rounds in the last six months with similar track record. It's dirty, but runs fine. I know that there have been reports that the primers need a hard strike...

Maybe you got a bad batch??

Good luck!

I though I might have gotten a bad batch but when i called the store I bought it from they won't do anything for me. Has anyone else heard of primer breaking away??? like I said one piece lodgged itself into my barrel extension.

I should note is is going thorugh my 10.5 NEA

That sucks, pretty much every shooter on here that has a 223 has shot a crate of that and I haven't seen very many threads of people having problems. It sounds like you must have got a bad batch or something which is pretty lame. I am in my second crate of 1600 and not had one FTF or any other problem. After I am done shooting through this crate I am going to start reloading it, as I really only bought it for the brass. Sorry for your luck.

I ran 100 rounds through an AR and only one issue which looks like it was a light strike, hit it again and it went bang. Wasn't as accurate as the AE blackbox I had with me but for the price I wasn't complaining

Well thanks for the feed back =)
Im going to see if I can get rid of the remainder of my crate and just steer clear of this ammo. I think I would rather pay the price to get quality ammo.

The quality of the Norinco ammo was on par with all the federal or AE that I have shot that comes in bulk as well. If your looking for high quality maybe pick up your brass and start reloading. You will cut your ammo costs in half and get match grade ammo.

I have often considered reloading but Im fairly new to shooting and would be scared to make a mistake. Is reloading an easy thing to get the hang of or is it an art form if you will?

Its very easy to get the hang of, lots of youtube videos and good books will help make the process easier to understand and safe to do. ITs a great hobby if you have the space and time. unless you shoot a lot the cost savings is not a big factor.

Reloading ... like dizzy said ... lots of stuff on youtube ... best advice is to look for either a used basic press or pick one up ... if you know anyone locally that does it could probably talk them into showing you. Take your time, get a book or two and relax.

Re the norinco .223 yellow box .... haven't tried reloading it yet but put about 100rds through my M4 (Norc) ... worked fine no misfires. A handfull of rds from one box had some corrosion on them. 1 I tossed just in case the rest fired just fine. No problems ... every now and then I'd fire and would get a brighter flash from the muzzle but recoil didn't seem to be any different. Overall I'm pleased with the purchase and I'm just out making confetti ... performance was more than adequate for that ... and if the zombie apocalypse should happen to come by got enough ammo for now ....
