I'm researching big bore lever rifles.

I know the 1895 Marlin 45-70 has a great reputation, but I'm wondering if anyone has shot a Winchester 94 Timber 450? It comes with the XS ghost ring front sight, quite a bit back on the receiver. How does it compare with Marlins iron sights? Also, is the Winchester an angle eject or side eject? I shoot left. What are some other differences between these two levers? Fit, feel balance etc? Can they both accurately shoot cast bullets up to 500gr?

I plan to handload for either of these when I decide upon one or the other.

Thanks.

Never seen one in person, but they look nice on winchester's website. I like the pistol grip lever actions. One potential problem with them is barrel is ported. I've heard a marlin guide gun (one of the older ones that was ported - I don't think they port them any more) and that sucker was loud. Not as loud as some brakes, but personally, I'll never own a gun with a ported barrel or muzzle brake.
