Who hates a .270 Winchester?

Wouldn’t this just end up being a 270WSM or 6.8Western at the end of it all?

I’ve given some brief thought to a faster twist 270, but with the WSM and Western avail out there it doesn’t seem to make sense really.
The WSM and western have more powder capacity. My 1-10 WSM can't stabilize anything over 160 partions and won't stabilize 160 coppers. My 270 Win won't stabilize over 150grn. The faster twist is more about using higher BC and copper bullets. I would be interested to see some +peak in a fast twist 270. Just curious.. I've looked around for actual stock and production of a fast twist 270win and couldn't find anything. I just posted the vid for the general content. Cheers

I gotcha. Both the WSM and Western interest me. More the latter tbh, but then I’m thinking it’s nothing a 7mmRM couldn’t handle effectively…

I did use the 270 Win in an older Sako AV (PH's rifle) on my safari in South Africa in May. Using S&B ammo with 150 gr SP bullets, I took bontebok, red lechwe, and black and copper springbok. Worked just fine, with the shots ranging from 153-225 yards. (My wife was hunting black wildebeest and white blesbok with their LH Rem 700 in 308 Win, with another PH)
When I was chasing eland, I opted to use the Sako AV in 30-06 for a heavier, larger bullet (S&B 180 gr SP) for the significantly larger antelope. Never had a shot opportunity where we knew for certain that the animal we were looking at was the targeted old bull.

I have chosen to use 140 gr bullets in the 270 cal as a compromise for velocity and mass for penetration, for hunting, whether for the Win, WSM, or Wby. (But I have used 100 gr, 130 gr and 150 gr bullets too over the years.) Has worked well for me to date.

I like a lot of guys my age started hunting with a Lee Enfield .303.
Then in 1976 I bought my first "real" hunting rifle, a Winchester model 70 in .30-06.
I never felt that I had a need for a .270 but if it's your thing then have at er'

Spomer and his buddy were given a fast twist 270 win Xbolt for doing a review on a few years back and it got me to thinking...
My first real rifle was a family heirloom that has been passed around between my father and his brothers as the lucky moose gun.. an old Husky from around 1943 that's chambered 270 win. Really cool rifle that I still shoot occasionally but the girl is a little tired now. I would love to get another 270 win. but I want to shoot some better bullets if I do, and typically you need the faster twist for them nice pills. Even the standard 7mmRM doesn't like coppers over 160grn from my experience. I do load for an Abolt 7mmRM and my bullet of choice for that is the ABLR 168grn. Cheers
