Who here uses a 416 as their main goto rifle!!

I use a 458 wm now but a 416 Taylor is on my wish list. Should be perfect moose and bear gun

That what I think too ;) so I have a build on the go now - 1964 Rem M700 action with reworked stock trigger to 2 lbs - B&C Alaskan TI stock - Talley LW 1 piece rings-bases- Leupold VX3 1.75-6 x Scope - Waiting for the ER Shaw SS 22" Remy magnum contour with straight flutes in it - Hope to have it shooting by October this year - I also have 40 correct head stamped brass too along with a new Horn Die Set and several different bullets and weights - I am Hoping it shoots the Hornady 400 gr DGX bullets well ! :d RJ

I don't have a 416 yet, but I do load 350gr Speer mag tips at about 2500fps in my 458win. Pretty flat to 250 yards and it's the closest thing to a freight train I've found yet. I would love to get another CZ 550 in 416 Rigby. Actually I'd love to have the full set; 375H&H, 416 Rigby, and 458!

Consider the 350 gr TSX in the .458, seated to the second groove and stuffed with H4198. 2650 is quite possible, and its performance on game from 100 pounds to a ton plus will have you wondering what the heavier bullets are supposed to be for. There is also a possibility that you will be left wondering what the .416 and .375 are supposed to be for as well, but that's the chance you take.

Let me know how it works out!

Sounds like a great rifle. I'm curious where you're coming up with correctly headstamped brass. I didn't know that anyone offered 416T brass.

Minutely better SD with the 416s but it's pretty much a wash. But if you need a long magnum action (not sure that you do with the 458 loaded as you describe) you might as well run a case like the Rigby where you can burn 110 grains of powder to turn up the heat to foolish levels.

It will fit in a standard magazine, and Brybenn already has .458. I've ready got a .416 Rigby to load up to foolish levels, but it seems to be perma parked.
I tried the 350 TSXs as a low recoil alternative for the 458 when I had some concerns about shooting 4-500 shots per week. They were a welcome relief, but more to the point opened up a world of possibilities. It horns into .375 territory, and kills better doing it.

I think the 458 has an almost endless variety of bullet options, any cast bullet meant for a 45-70 will shoot well in a 458.
I've yet to try the 350 TSX but will do so.

Jamieson - Quality - Norma - Norma even has Factory loaded ammo ! I am going to neck up 338 Win Mag brass for practice etc and keep the 40 HeadStamped 416 T's for hunting ammo :d RJ

It seemed to make better brass if I necked down 458 WM as opposed to necking up 338.
I took the 338 through 3 steps to make a 416 neck and several cases had an uneven neck wall whereas one pass with a 458 case into the Taylor die and Presto, you have a 416 Taylor ready to fireform...... at least that is my experience Jim..

My 416 Taylor

Wow, Kevan... that is a beauty!

Considering how very nice your rifles are Hoyt, I shall take that as a real compliment.
Every time you post pics of your rifles I am envious.

Thank-You Sir..

I definitely give them a try Dogleg, thanks. WSS happens to have some on the shelf last time I was there and I happen to have some H4198 so I'll see what I can do.

Last bag in Winchester brand 458win brass was at a shop in Lloydminster(not a site sponser), there was only one bag and it was $50. Better than the Hornady prices of around $75 for 50 pieces. That was the first bag of winchester 458 brass I've seen in 2 years. Prophet River has Hornady and Norma in stock I believe.
