I happen to own two of the old Wolverines. They're a fascinating design (I collect) that's similar to the turn of the 20th century Reunies Dictator, and it could have been scaled up to handle probably any serious calibre. If it had been a better seller. They're nothing marvelous in the shooting department, but fun, and you really have to pay attention to detail when stripping for cleaning. There's a company in the state of Washington, Olympic Arms, which is making a slightly modernized version, but I have no idea if they're available in Canada.

that's cool, MTF! the link I provided takes you to Olympic Arms...it's a polycarbonate remake. my understanding from my gun nut friend in the US is another company is actually rebuilding/refurbishing old one's. they were a very limited run tho...1800 units back in 1957 I think. that's so nifty you have two though...would you be so kind as to post some images for me to gawk at? :D

I do remember having heard or read something about somebody in The States refurbishing old Wolverines, but I also seem to remember that it was Olympic, before they tooled up for the new gun. I do know that there's a gunsmith in Washington state who specialized in working on them -- maybe that's the one.

Being old and almost computer illiterate, I've never been able to figure out how to send pics to this (or any other) site. However, if you'll send me your email address, I'll take some pics and send them to you that way. I'm just ALMOST illiterate. As I mentioned, the design of the gun really fascinates me. It's kind of a tube within a tube. If the guns had sold better, they might well have made a locked breech or retarded impulse design to do .380s or 9s, because the frame itself takes very little of the recoil stress when it fires. Of course with .22s it doesn't matter, but it's fun to think of what might have been. Same's true (but of different design) of the Benelli pistol family (now out of production), made in 7.65 Browning (.32 ACP), 7.65 Para, 9mm Ultra and 9mm Para -- same frame.

They were a very interesting little pistol, with some unusual design features.

I recall reading a write-up on them in one of the NFA periodicals by the late Dave Tomlinson that piqued my interest.

Weren't most of the originals sold in England and later destroyed?

I'm not certain, but the design was US, and I believe the sales were all in the US. They were just a little too odd for the traditionalists, and so they were only sold for a relatively short whilein the 60s and 70s. But I think it was all in the US. There weren't any left to destroy, as far as I know. They're fairly common in the gun shows down south, but a lot of them are pretty beat up, mostly by kitchen table gunsmiths.

Once owned one, and I still have a spare firing pin somewhere in the desk drawer.

Now the funny part. The local gun store appraiser had a BRAIN FART and they have one priced at $600! ROTFLMAO.
I suggested that they frame it, since they are going to have it a LOOOOONG time.

I like the looks of the original. The vent rib, not so much.

Should be a dozen of the originals in the props rooms of any movie outfit that wanted to make a Sci-Fi flick, eh?

Cheers
Trev

Magazines and parts are available through Olympic Arms in the US, but I have no idea where they might be found in Canada. I don't think I've seen one of the pistols for sale here, but there probably are some floating around. You'd have to just keep looking. I've also never seen one used in sci-fi flick, but you can't beat Han Solo's tricked out C96 Mauser, anyway.

maybe wolverine supplies should carry them ;)

Shame on you guys for not pointing out Olympic Arms carries them! ;)

but I did, but I did point it out! what I still need to know is who in Canada sells Olympic products because their website shows Canada to be a barrel wasteland of non-resalers whereas there are many sites in the US. :runaway:

I sent Wolverine a message to see if they'd look into importing them...that was last week. nothing since then. :(
