Weither it be a muzzel loader or centerfire how many of us have hunted with a big bore rifle?? I personally use a Marlin 1895G 45/70. I load 350gr FN Horandy bullets @ 2100fps and thats been my meat getter for the past few years with great sucsess. Hits hard and no animals go far if at all yet it doesn't ruin meat. Somthing to be said for those .400 +calibers!!

Cheers

I hunt with a Browning 86 SRC with the same load you mentioned in .45-70. I also hunt with a Marlin model 375 in .375 Winchester. 220 gr Hornady handloads are VERY good deer killers in the.375. I also hunt with an Enfield Musketoon in .58 cal. I shoot 585 grain minies' works well on black bear over bait.
cheers Darryl

I'll be using these two next year(Seeing as I dropped a bull moose early Sept with my bow,I never had a chance to grab my muzzleloader(s)):T/C Encore and a Pedersolli Frontier percussion.

I don't use any true Big Bores, but I do use a 375 H&H, and I use it primarily for bears. I'd use it on a bison if I got a tag, or maybe if I was going on a hunt for moose exclusively, and it was more of a road hunt than a hiking trip...:) (my 375 H&H is heavy)

I want to wack me a big whitey next year with my 45/70. There's some thick bush that I know the big boys are hiding in, and that 45/70 will push it's way through the brush to the sweet spot. I'm planning on using 400 grainers, I want to see the brush fall as they drive their way through.:D

Used to pack the medium bore 375 H&H. Had shoulder troubles so it was no fun to pack all day. Was going to build a 416 Taylor or 458 Winny but chose to go down to a 338-06. This pauper ain't gonna git to Afrika.......sigh.

Will be packing my 38-55 next fall with cast lead. That's as big bore as I will get for some time I fear.
I would love to play with a 45-90 or 50-110 some day, I love Bowling for deer!

bog bore

have a 45-70 1895ss
also have a 350 mahburn- not a bigbore but willl be my go to gun if have the heart to pack it through the bush as custom work done on stock is very nice
might trim down the 28 inch barrel:eek:

.45 Hawken muzzle loader
577/450 Martin Henry black powder cartridge
Had a Brno 602 in 458 WinMag. Got a big black bear with it.

Would you consider a slug gun a big bore... it is certainly in the 45-70 class for energy and recoil.... what about a 50cal Muzzle loader.;)
I have been killing big game with these guns for 25 years and seven shoulder operations though... so I think it counts.
Yeah ... I like big bores for big game.
