Who hunts with a 10 Gauge?

I have an SP-10 and while I don't use it every hunt, it is a great firearm. I think it and the Browning Gold are super. The BPS is a real monster. My arms not long enough.

I have 3 1/2" 12s, but go from 3 inch to the big 10 as it patterns well. Shoot Briley's.

Patrick.

I just weighed the 10 gauge Westley and it is an astounding 7pounds 5 ounces!!
That's one fast swinging 10 gauge!
My 12 gauge Westley is danged near as heavy at 7pounds 4 ounces!:p
I use my digital postal scale to weigh my guns BTW.

Was just surfing the web to look at a pre-owned SP-10 at Prophet River.

I didn't see it there, but they do have on consignment a Colt hammerless sxs 10 gauge from 1882, with of course, Damascus tubes.

Also a nice Parker SxS in 12 gauge!!

Damascus barrels!! What are you trying to do? Have us blow our hands off??? Those things are dangerous, man. Haven't you been listening to the rumors and innuendo spread by the ammo companies and new gun companies since the 1920's!!!

Hahahaha! Just getting my jollies for the evening. Don't mind me.

If things go well I will be killing geese and ducks with the 10 gauge using black and Bismuth this weekend!

Good one!

On a similar note, the most recent publication of Upland Journal, there was an excellent article about the recent and brand new manufacture of Damascus barreled double guns.

The lighter gun will hurt you as far as shoulder goes
Many falsely assume the 10-gauge kicks like a mule. On the contrary, at a weight of 11 pounds, it’s actually more manageable than most of today’s 7-pound, 12-gauges when firing 3½-inch shells.
If they killed less than you did I think you best get them out shooting some clays since they probally cannot hit the side of a barn or have never patterned their guns

We don't have the geese dropping their feet in front of us 20 yards out like you guys do in Ontario and PEI when I hunted there
When I do get in those situations I am the last to shoot and normally the 1st shot is like 35 plus yards if not we can make instant hamburger
However most of our goose shooting here is pass shooting and a nice shot in 40 yards or we hunt sea ducks so you need every advantage you legally can use
Know all about the older part ;) which is why my deer gun is now a 243 vs a 3006 or 7mm, But all honestly the 10ga semi's are no problem with respect to recoil
Cheers

Yup, right on the money. My 10 gauge double kicks less than many 12 gauges I have shot. My single shot, although lighter, actually is easier to handle, due to a good recoil pad and better stock design. I bought the single after early goose season last year, so never got much opportunity to hunt with it (prefer a semi auto for ducks over decoys). I did shoot a mallard with it when it was the only gun I had in the Jeep, and it smashed it with authority for sure.

3macs1, did not know you were a caper, bet we have a mutual friend in North Sydney.

Cool. I will send a PM. Maybe my old goose hunting buddy RR
Cheers

You guys are a bunch of jerks. Here I was happily pounding out the remaining days of my summer work contract, not really thinking about hunting, and now I keep thinking I need to go dig the 10 gauge out of the safe and figure out how to sneak some time this weekend and kill some Canadas.

:D

You need to learn how to deal with this problem - here's what I do:
break gun open, drop in two shells loaded with a substantial amount of powder and a gauge payload of shot- big enough so it makes a satisfying " thoomp!" when they hit the chambers.
Point gun in sky as birds come by and pull the trigger - what feathers "POOF!" and birds come down!

But no worries good buddy, we are here for you!
If you can't get out we will send you some pics with dead birds and big grins in them!
