Who hunts with a Milsurp?

Blowed up several groundhogs with my TRW made M14 (USGI) in an unbedded glass USGI stock. Shot 168 gr. Sierra MK HPBT match bullets at those earthpigs all inside 150 steps... Using IRON Sights!

Blowed them up REAL good! :D

Want to get out coyote hunting this fall with my current NORC M14 ;)

Cheers,

Barney

Milsurp humting

I took a nice 8 pt buck in Pennsylvania back in 1999. Used my 7.7 sporterized Japanese Arisaka 7.7. This year I re re-converted it back to original issue as best I could. Looks pretty good. I milled and sanded new handguards. Bought a front barrel band and repro sling and bayonet. Took a few shots with it a few weeks ago and it's not too bad at 50 yrds open sights. I'm gonna use it again come Nov 1st.

'Yotes with the SVT 40. Probably 15 in the last year. Prvi 180s inside 200m w/ irons. The bullets go pretty much where you point them. Only had one real runner, the rest didn't get far.

White tail doe two years ago with a Mosin M38 from about 80ft. I do so like that rifle in the bush. I did take the shellac off and go with a truoil finish - easier to handle when it's wet. Thinking seriously about a PU for that rifle.

I'm going up north a bit next weekend. Taking my M91/30 with open sights to get its first animal. My SKS is a great quad gun, both durable and fast to point and shoot in thick bush. SVT40 was a few weekends ago, but I think the pic was already posted.

Lots of people hunt with milsurp. Most farmers have one hidden in the barn and the Inuit and Indians still use them today. Why replace something that works well?

Snider Enfield for Groundhogs!

Lots of fun...even if you miss and hit the berm of the hole near them it tends to wake them up!

Still not as much fun as chasing them across the field with a G3 back in the day!

My father took a deer with this 43 Mauser two years ago. It was already bubba'd when I bought it for him so don't crucify me. I only paid $50 for it but despite having the barrel and stock hacked off it was in good condition and shoots great.

No, I don't know what he was thinking with those foam floor mats...:D

Not me, I have milsurp that could be used and more than possibley get the job done, but with new age technology and modern firearms, I have better things to make sure I get the job done. Although you have to take into consideration I am a young hunter and just want to get game on the table is my priority, once I age I'm sure I'll be using other things such as bows, muskets and milsurp for the experience portion.

Just yesterday I nailed a coyote with a 1943 91/30. Man was I excited! I bought the gun a while ago and was thinking about purchasing a milsurp scope from ebay, but after yesterday I wont even bother. She fits perfectly in a little corner of the tractor I was shooting from, doesn't bounce around at all, and best of all, I don't have to worry about knocking iron sites out of alignment like I would a scope.

Several truckloads of deer, a moose and a bear with a No5 JC over the past 40 plus yrs. More recently several deer with a sporterized M98 Mauser in 7x57 and a sporterized M1903 Springfield. Looking fwd to some deer hunting with a stock 03A4 Springfield sniper rifle.

Back in the day my C1A1 may or may not have strayed and taken a groundhog or two:D Statute of limitations is up right....

Other than that, Jungle Carbine and a Bren.
