Who hunts with a peep?

I think the receiver sight with aperature removed is the fastest sight going for the woods. Years ago everyone unscrewed that small aperature and looked through the big threaded hole for woods hunting. Way better in low light and just as accurate for hunting, nobody called it a ghost ring then though.

Mike, you are absolutely correct. When reading these posts it is easy to pick out the people who have "been there," and write on experience.

I have a Lyman receiver mounted peep sight on my 30-30. After shooting with open iron sights, that peep feels like I'm cheating. No need for a scope on that one. I bagged two Whitetail bucks with that peep-sighted 30-30 a couple years ago, one shot each.

Northman 99-did you just buy that 9,3X62 with the Helqvist peep sight from Anthony?[I looked at it,shoulda bought it,but I already have one in 9.3x57,and they are scarce as hens teeth]

Since these rifles are considered ''short range''[under 200 yards, which I don't shoot over anyways]I felt there was no detriment to not having it scoped-and it carrys nicely too.And with the big''ears''either side of the peep sight, you don't have to worry about them being knocked out of alignment either

I can't say that I have hunted with a peep sight but I certainly plan to in the future. My experiance with a peep sight has been limited to my british .303 (canadian ranger issue). I have been shooting this rifle for about eight years and have won a few compititions with it. My most memorable was a 400yd deliberate match (prone) where I got all eight rounds in the inner ring, which is 4x8 inches! That says a lot for the old enfeild and a good aperature sight. As for hunting, last year I made a point of shooting (a sheep and a caribou) with the open sights on my m94 30-30 and my husky .308. I enjoy the simplisity and easy carry of iron sights, also I have to admit I feel there is a little bragging facter involved! Scopes? Who needs a scope! Soooo, I've been meaning to set up a couple of my hunting rifles with good peep sights. Just got to get around to doing it. Happy hunting

I just put a williams peep on my model 94 30-30 for dogging the woods for this years deer hunt sure do hope it works for me im gonna practice and see if my eyes can get used to it!!!

I started hunting 35 yrs ago with a No 4 enfield with issue sights , I took alot of game with it . I've never been without at least one peep sighted rifle, from a savage 99 in 250 to ruger No 3 in 45/70 . My current favourite is a 98 mauser with a gaillard barrel in 6.5x55 and a williams foolproof , it will put 3 shots into 1.5 or 2 inches with most loads I've put through it . Just for the record , I always removed the screw in aperature for hunting.
