Who indexes barrels?!?

Who indexes barrels?!?

And also, who has taller front sight posts?

.
Perchance a bit more detailed information as to what you have and what you are trying to accomplish would be useful ?

Yes. Who indexes barrels. As in, my barrel is not properly indexed to the receiver, so I would like it indexed.

Norinco M305 and I am trying to accomplish POA=POI

Those are 2 people I would trust to do the job right.
On a side note check the stickey's if you want to do it your self. Also don't forget the side screw that holds the barrel in place so you don't muck up the threads ;)

Check the sticky. It might also not have the sight base aligned properly to the barrel. Needs to be checked. Ship it to M-14 Doctor and for a very reasonable fee he will check, align, and give the rifle a good once over.

ditto to one of Hungrys M14 Clinics. he helped me index mine last year in 5 min (on his way thru my town to give a clenic elsewhere, again Thanks Barney...) with simple tools, a bench vise, a wrench, some tape, 2 small clamps and two little pieces of aluminum. thats it a bit of eyeballing and bit of muscle. took longer to take tools out of his car and tell me what we were doing than to actually do it.

x2 on the sight itself might not be milled straight and if you are going to use a scope don't worry about it.
If you want a taller front sight you could also try to build up the height of your front sight with JB weld and file it after or glue a strip of plastic on top and trim to fit.

Pics from when I did mine (Hungry supervised closely..lol) with Ballistic Experience at one of Hungrys clinics in Borden
The receiver and barrel are wrapped in tape and the barrel vice is secured .

Here are the pics of where to mount the indicators to show that the barrel is indexed. My front sight was leaning to the right as the barrel was under tightened so in the pic I pulled down on the wrench to tighten the receiver on onto the barrel and into the correct position.
This is verified by looking down the length of the firearm at the two pieces of metal and they should look like one.

On my m305 the barrel was out of index and the front sight was incorrectly made, which put me through a real wringer. You can send your gun to Ingram Custom or go to an m14 clinic.

Check to see if your feed ramps are indexed first. For the longest time I thought I had an incorrectly indexed barrel on one of my m305s. It turned out that the barrel on my was indeed indexed properly but the splines for the muzzle were not centered with the feed ramp of the barrel. This cased the front sight to lean right. Subsequently the feed ramps on the chamber are properly indexed with the centre of the receiver and line up with the op rod spring guide. I just scope the gun now since no amount of turning will fix a FUBAR barrel that isnt even made right. Op rod guide and everything else is in perfect alignment.

Jeezus...

Sometimes I love these rifles, sometimes they gross me right out...

I cant remember the exact size but it is a normal wrench and the wrench has not been modified..the barrel has to be held in place by a specially made piece of equipment called a barrel vice (the square block in the pic)it was made for Hungry by someone .
It took alot of pressure to move the receiver into position and that is why a barrel vice is required.
Ellwood Epps here in Ont will index it for you as well as Jeff Smith at valley guns here in Petawawa .

In the picture above I was hanging off the wrench to get it to move....and it let out a crack and a small wisp of smoke rose up and it was in place. Mine took alot of force to get it to move.

I remember that wisp of smoke, that thing really didn't want to move.

Rascal, did you try a big long pipe on your wrench?

nope...its splined so unless you chop the barrel there is no other fix that I know of. You need an action wrench, barrel vice and a big ol cheater bar to do the job. Your gunsmith needs to eat his wheaties if he couldn't do it.
