So who is going after spring bear and what is your weapon and load of choice?
I'll be shooting
Ruger M77 alaskan
375 Ruger
300g sierra SBT

The girlfriend
Savage axis
243 win
100g partitions
 
Probably going if the snow ever melts, lol.
Will be packing my 700 Classic in 8x57....198 Norma Dual-Core fueled by VV N150.

Bear won't stand a chance. :)

how far north are you? I am in the 150mile area. Have a few reports of them sticking their heads out.
I think Easter weekend will be the turning point with them venturing further from their dens
 
I will be going out for Ontario's spring hunt, I use a variety of rifles depending on location, weather, who I'm hunting with. Browning Shortrac in 7 wsm, Rem Alaskan Ti in 300 WSM, custom 358 STA, Win model 70 in 416 Rem Mag, custom Ruger in 458 win mag, custom BRNO 602 in 458 win mag
 
I'm taking my son out and once he tags his bear, I have a couple buddies that are looking for a guide. My son will be shooting his Hoyt compound... I've taken 45+ bears, all with a bow, but with a couple safes full of rifles, I am debating on taking my first rifle bear... the short list in no particular order are; M77/44 with 225 FTX, No.1-A in 7X57 with 154 IB, No.1-S in .45/70 with 325 FTX, M77-AW in .358 Win with 250 SR-RP and a plain jane Pre-64 M94 in .30/30 with 168 BT...

And when I go to pull one, my hand will start shaking and I will cave and take my bow... again...

EDIT... just landed (thanks to a swell fall bear eating fellow CGNer)... a Ruger No.1-A in .30/30... will be using the 168 BT's over Varget, if this one gets the nod... I will know after a range session.

Yup. T/C Dimension in .308 with a 180 grain bullet. Buddy will be bow hunting. Shotgun back at camp for small game.

I'm in Prince George, and live in the north section of the city.
We have 3 feet of the darn stuff on the flat here yet.

However, today saw some warm sunshine....if we can get more of that with a bit of wind, it will go fast.

Was born and raised in the spring bear hunt in Ontario and now I get the chance to show my son what it was all about!! At 17 with his new 338 Win.Mag. And myself with the 458 Lott it's gonna be a blast....
Can't wait.

When I was in orchard country [Okanagan/Shuswap]I liked the fall bruins that had been feeding on apples and prunes.
The meat was always soooo delicious. But plenty of fat as well. [We rendered it and used it as lard.]

But, as mentioned, for pepperonies and other sausage, a spring bear is great. I often mix it with trimmings from a deer shot the previous fall.
