Hello Folks... there was a fellow CGNer looking for a Ruger 77/44 Stainless Synthetic a couple weeks back, but I cannot find the thread??? My LGS just got in an excellent condition Ruger 77/44 Stainless and I was going to pass along the info... if anyone can help out with contact info, or would like to horn-in (which is fine with me)... just send me a PM or post here.

Thanx.

I sold mine awhile back and it went frickin' fast. I would've kept 'er if it was blued steel w/wood stock.
Good shooting & light rifles, but for me the black plastic & stainless is hard to warm up to.:)

Lucked out last summer on a 77/44 to go along with the 77/22 and 77/22 Hornet that were both picked up last last summer as well.
Great action and a flawless feed from the magazine.
David

... Gonna put a hundred 225 FTX through it tomorrow morning...
Sweet set up - practice makes perfect. Let us know how those gummys shoot.

Closest I can come to that 77-44 AW layout is my Ruger77/358W Frontier in a canoe paddle stock - quarter rib removed. A very similar set up though probably slightly heavier - and not a 44.

BTW - story is that the 77-44 AW that hoytcanon flagged was just sold to a Canadian who has a camp in Alaska. Big idea is to carry a light rifle in the bush using the same ammo as his sidearm used. Be nice to be able to do that here.

Just for the pleasure of the eyes, here a little video with 8 shots of Leverevolution FTX 225 out of my scoped 77-44, the other shots ( 20) are from my SR-22, this was shot at 50 metres... JP.

I like my 77/44. I have a set of Skinner barrel-mounted sights on mine and with it I can consistently hit the 50 and 75 yard gongs off hand. These rifles really benefit from the installation of a Volquartsen sear to lower the trigger pull.

Here is my beauty. I am considering a peep sight for it in the future as I dont care for the factory irons

My only complaint is that my magazine has feeding issues when it has 2+ shells in it. I have to ram the bolt fast or the shell will catch on the edge of the chamber. Im going to get another mag so hopefully that is the issue and not the gun itself.

Hey partner... I experienced a little of what you did with feeding when I loaded 240 SWC Hardcast... but I started loading the 225 FTX with a light crimp into the cannelure and it feeds as smooth as silk now... and these are very nice loads... I picked up 1K of the 225 FTX bullets, so I have some shootin' to do! On my way to the range now.

Shot 300 rounds today... 50 rounds of .44 mag 225 FTX loads over H110, out of the 77/44... I have a Nikon P-22 scope on this gun with BDC 150, it is a rimfire scope but I chose this scope because it is gauged to the same velocity as my .44 loads... I first zeroed at 50 yards... then fired a 10 round group at 100 yards using the 100 POA of the 150 BDC... gun was flawless with the FTX loads lightly crimped into the cannelure... effortless and smooth, feeding and extraction... it is a very pleasant gun to shoot... I am very pleased with it.

I just crunched some numbers on the JBM calculator... it was surprising... my 1700 fps (peppy) H110/225 FTX loads have an MPBR of 130 yards with only a 3" kill zone radius... and a Max PBR of 150 yards! I will still use the 150 BDC, but it really isn't all that necessary apparently (with a rough range guesstimate and a little Kentucky windage)... good to know.

Good range report HC - and good accuracy - what a great little combo - a keeper.

Followup on your FTX loads - for comparison purposes - since this is a small bush rifle 44mag thread;

I chronyed three shots of 44 mag Winchester factory white box 240gr JSP from my 12" tube Rossi - readings were 1658, 1657, 1671 uncorrected. Suprised me also they were that peppy. Actually hunted an evening with that combo from a tree stand last fall but bears were shy to have their pic taken with my Rossi. Slightly heavier JSPs won't fly as nice as the FTX but loads are very close in power levels out the door I think.
I must try some FTX pills in my Mare's Leg when I find time. BTW I use the same powder in my 44 mag handloads - a tried and proven powder for heavy 44mag loads - no need to reinvent what is working well.
