I accepted the job diamond drilling that starts next month.
I want a new 6.5x55 sweed stainless steel scope and a butter smooth action who is making the best right now.

I seen one in a Browning A-Bolt and snoozed on it.
Tikka does the round as well.
Tradex had a few higher end ones.
Might be worth a gander there carverk.

I can only vouch for the one i own it is a Bavarian Set trigger in 6.5X55 a beautiful rifle and a beautiful caliber, i find her a sweet hanload that giving me .6 all day, it is to nice to hunt with i just shoot it at the range, if you buy one like that you will be delighted... JP.

I built a Mauser a while back, one hell of the rifle but sal####er ruined it.
My own fault feeling sad about it. I could fold rebar at hundred yards with a cold barrel regardless of which factory animal I used.
So I promised myself the next one would be stainless steel I absolutely love 6.5x55 and I want the best rifle to shoot it.

In stainless your options are limited. There are no North American made stainless 6.5x55 rifles that I'm aware of, although you could have a stainless WInchester 70 (or Rem 700, or whatever else) rebarelled. For off the shelf rifles theres Tikka (if your okay with plastic bits) and Sako (worth the extra over Tikka in my opinion if you can afford it).

There are also a bunch of other European makers who chamber in 6.5x55, but most are hard to find here, and few are available in stainless. If you want something quite obscure, very expensive and in my opinion extremely awesome, I think a 6.5x55 Heym SR30 straight pull rifle in the stainless/laminate version would fit the bill. Blue Line Activities in your home province of BC carries Heym and may be able to get one for you. They're just a short 1,700 km trip down the road from you.

Whatever you choose to go with I definately agree that the 6.5x55 as a great cartridge and I hope you enjoy your new rifle.

That's what I would do.

Tikka T3 Varmint performs well. 1/2 minute with the right loads. It has a smooth action, decent trigger, ejects spent shells enthusiastically. Sako would be an improvement somewhat. Both can be turned up to sling 140 grain bullets at 2800.

I'd imagine a Sako 85 with a laminated stock would be a very classy stick if you've got dollaz to dump. A custom would be hard pressed to outperform it.

If money isn't an issue, have a custom rifle built by a talented gunsmith, made up from the components you choose. This is the best rifle for you because it is a combination of the components and features you want, rather than what is envisioned by someone else. It can have all the embellishments you could dream of, or be a plain working rifle, either way, if you know what you want, full custom defines what's best . . . for you.

The downside to this approach is that expensive custom rifles tend to have a poor resale value. The reason is that what is appropriate for you probably won't be attractive to a perspective buyer, who will want your rifle steeply discounted if he is interested in it at all. It can sit on consignment at a gun store for a very long time if you insist on getting a fair return from it. This is of no concern provided you intend to keep this rifle for the rest of your life, but if you are an impulsive gun trader, stick with a good quality off the shelf gun that will hold its value and sell quickly in the used market.

Forget the stailess steel action and barrel and get a CZ 550 - best value for money by far.

The rifle has to be stainless steel and synthetic stock I'm looking for weather resistant not pretty.
If I live in the interior than I would definitely get the CZ just to much rain to pack such a pretty rifle in.

Sako would get my vote, but I prefer the Sako 75 to the newer 85. In the meantime, I'm very happy with my Remington 700 Classic in 6.5x55. :D

Hello,
Go for a Mannlicher Stainless SBS ProHunter in 6.5X55 SE, you'll enjoy it for years to come and will never regret your purchase. Top it up with a Zeiss Conquest or Leupold VX-III scope.

I like the way you think.
I had a chance to check one out at lever arms and it was very sweet with a butter smooth action.
That's is what I was thinking of when I started this post.
Do you own one yourself?
How do you like it?
Is it dependable even in adverse conditions?

Great rifle choice. If I had the coin I would upgrade the scope to a Schmidt & Bender 3-12x42 with the number 8 reticle.
Now that would be a nice setup.

I got one 3 years ago shot a muley with it. One of the BEST medium game cartridge and one of the BEST rifles. I sold the 6.5X55 Pro Hunter & bought a Classic Half Stock instead in the same calibre.
But SBS Pro Hunter bug was still bugging me so got another in 7mm RM.

I am almost positive the SBS Pro Hunter is what I'm going to get.
The only concern I have is with a action being so tight I have concerns about reliability in the field.
Have you had any problems with malfunctions?
