I need a second SKS rifle.

I already have one I bought in Arizona in the early 90's. It works flawlessly.

I decided to get a 2nd as a backup SHTF rifle. I always have a case of 7.62x39 ball. A spare SKS just makes sense.

Who has reliable SKS rifles these days?

I don't want to buy one from Lever unless I have no other choice.

It doesn't have to be pretty. I just want one that functions 100%.

A good way of ensuring it'll work when you get it is by keeping an eye out onthe EE forums. THat way you can ask the actual shooter how it operates before you throw the money down.

I think there are a couple of RUssian M59's for sale right now.

Milarm has tons of Chinese SKS for $165 still in cosmo.

I have had to put a hault to my SKS addiction... (To have more money for my Mosin addiction!)

FWIW, I have a genuine Russian Tula for sale in the EE right now. There is also at least one Yugo SKS for sale there now, but no chromed bore.

Avoid the Chinese stuff IMHO. I've had lots of them, but the Eastern European stuff is SOOOO Much higher quality it's just scary. Never saw a Rooskie SKS with a falling out pinned barrel, for example... ;)

Say what you will, but I've had about 6 or 7 chinese SKS rifles. None of them was as good as a Russian/Yugo/Polish/East German/Romanian/ etc. SKS. The fit and finish is JUST NOT THERE.

And among Chicom guns there is even a "quality tier". Earlier is, not surprisingly, better.

I would not buy another one ;) 'nuff said.

as a collectable beauty, a Yugo SKS (never seen a ruski one in person) is always better looking. In terms of putting lead downrange in large quantities, I did not notice a difference between my chicom SKS (70s vintage I assume) and my friend's yugo...but felt the same and operated as well.

Much more tooling marks on my chicom ;) But as a "backup SHTF" rifle as in this context, beauty and collectability are not necessarily that important.

I looked over your SKS in the EE and decided it was not for me, and the only reason was that I was likely going to take it to the range and burn through crates of surplus with it, something I think another Chicom would be good for :) A SKS oogler deserves that russian SKS, as when I would be done with it it will likely not be as valuable with a shot out bore...
