Just finished up my second 870. Milled open my first one about a year ago before sending it away for cerakote. Just polishing away any tooling marks now and thinking about what colour I want to get this one done in.

Anyone else dig it as much as I do?

Nicely done and I'd go with H-219 Gun Metal Gray Cerakote.
You could also do smaller parts in H-148 Burnt Bronze to really make things pop.

Nice job, did you use a die grinder or dremel to open it up or did you set it up on a mill?

I set the receiver on the mill in a vice at 5°. Cut with a ¾" carbide end mill the same length as the factory feed port, which results in about half of the cutter relieving the opening of the magazine tube. Then I polish out any cutting marks with a stone by hand, and deburr the edges.

I've gotten a couple messages about this, so I'll add some more pictures tonight.

Pictures of setup?
I only took one of this last receiver. But someone asked me to do up their pump gun, maybe I'll be able to get some more pics when I get that one in the vice.

I finished polishing the cut on the latest gun tonight and touched up the blueing all over. Just need to decide what colour I'm going to get this cerakoted.

Just curious as to why the angle cut and not flat. Like this.

Interesting.
At least on the 870, a flat opening would leave the shell lifter totally exposed at the depth I cut. My goal is to improve access at the opening of the tube, an angle protects the lifter while achieving access to the tube with gloves hands.

Ty for the response, appreciated.

Have a look at Cerakote Midnight Bronze.
Looks great with black furniture.
It's my plan once I get a 1301.

I'm feeling out some wood furniture I have kicking around. Needs some TLC. But if I go with wood then it will either be a black - grey or midnight blue, with TiN internals. Either way I need a barrel before I choose a cerakote.
