I sure like them. Anything with a 20 inch or shorter barrel is a sweet hunting gun for the majority of hunting scenarios. The ballistics are not far behind a 22 or 24 inch barrel . They are easy to pack in the bush and usually are lighter in weight. Show me yours!IMG_7822.jpgfrom bottom to top. Im really starting to like rifles I have had cut to 20”. Especially my stand rifles or timber stalking rifles. Very convenient and handy!!! One of my hunting partners chops everything down to 18.5”.

Hunting in blinds tends not to be conducive to anything but a short barrelled rifle. I use my #1 in .303 which is a beauty I won't part with, but I also have an old SMLE sporter and SKS that are about to get a haircut to 19". I also like my shotguns short, my 16 gauge H&R weighs 5.5 pounds and gets brought everywhereas a back up.

First, I was like, this is great, finally a topic about farm equipment. Then I clicked on the thread and was confused as to how those rifles are floating on the rack but on close inspection realized they are on a table. I love my carbines also, even the restricted ones.

I especially enjoy being beside or slightly ahead of the muzzle of an 18.5" 30-06 when it is touched off...

In camp I have to go to bed after my hunting partner because he covets my Mauser 7x57 a little too much. He thought his M700 308 was a handy little rifle until he started fondling my rifle.

If he was a fondler, I would go to sleep after him too...

I prefer carbines over full length rifles when I can get them. 20" is about perfect for me and the types of hunting that I do.

Carbines

I have a bit of a fetish for carbines myself but they need to be dressed in full wood. I have a collection of Ruger M77 RSI's with 18 1/2" barrels and a few full stocked Zastava's with 20" barrels.

Sweet guns there! What cartridges do your rugers come in?

22-250, 243, 250 Savage,257 Roberts, 6.5x55, 270, 7mm Mauser, 275 Rigby, 308, 30-06
There are still a few calibers available that I don't have yet. The Ruger #1 also comes in the RSI which I also have in 260 Remington, 243, and 308, but I prefer the M77.
