Who likes carbines?

20" barrel for my stand rifle. Any shorter is too loud for my liking.

The 783 16.5" in .308 is a barker fer sure, but good options for ear protection are out there for hunters. I would rather just wind the can on a rifle to negate blast, but our BS legal system is agin'er. Fookin' idiots.:(

Short, light and handy is the only way to go with hunting rifles as far as I’m concerned. Between BLR’s, custom T3 compacts, 44 carbines and model sevens, I’ve only ever carried carbines. A rifle needs to carry/balance well and barrels 20” and under tend to do that best.

This is the rifle I used for this year's hunting season - a Sako Fiberclass in 300WM with the factory 19 3/4" barrel. The chambering wouldn't have been my first choice in a short barrel, but beggars can't be choosers. I've had comments at the range that the fireball is quite incredible, but from behind the rifle, I don't notice anything particularly different vs. my other longer barrelled rifles.

The scope is a Leupold 1.25-4 in QR mounts, so I can dismount it and still see the irons. I've got a Sako rear peep sight for it, and with iron sights it's an even nicer rifle to carry. Although I'm still a lever guy at heart (no shortage of carbines in that group), this bolt gun is definitely a favourite of mine.

That's a nice model 7 buckmastr! As forest gump would say. The 350 remington magnum and a carbine are like peas and carrots. LolIMG_7838.jpg

I have many Ruger International rifles in both the M77 MKII and No.1's... also have a few No.1-A's (if we are going to call them carbines). I have also had many Ruger M77 MKII Frontier rifles with the 16.5" barrels, the original Ruger scout rifle... and of course many of the obligatory Pre-64 M94 .30-30's that should be in everyone's closet.

At 20" my 30-30 is the longest in my closet. Think it's the longest overall length too.
Ruger made a 300WSM and a 325WSM with a 16.5 barrel. I'd like to get both.

Started with a Jungle Carbine as my first shorter rifle ! , then a mod 94 trapper and then a mod 88 carbine and a ruger 44 a win 100 308 carbine and lots of others , my go to now is a Kimber Adirondack 308 . Unless you are shooting past 300 a carbine is all you need and for some out to 600

So a .308 with an 18" barrel would be a good all round rifle then? Mostly for deer. I have a 300 mag for bigger animals and long distance shooting but am looking at something lighter and handier for deer hunting on foot or off and on a quad. Just not sure if that short a barrel would reduce the performance too much.

Howa 1500 with a 16 inch K&S stainless barrel and fiberglass stock, in 7X57, because well, you would wouldn't you.
Actually the noise isnt that bad with 7X57, and changing it out to lighter optics makes this thing feather light.

I like carbines for any type of hunting
