who makes a 16" lever action carbine in .358 Winchester?

or, I hope, made...so I can try to find a used one, if they're no longer manufactured.

needs to angle eject, my eyes are bad, so I intend on putting a low power scope on it.

were they made that short a barrel for this calibre? the model 88 and the blr are both 22" and 20" can't think of anything that short in a lever of that caliber, cut it down i guess.

I'm sure I could live with a 20" barrel, if I had to. Any other lever chambered in this calibre besides the 88 and BLR? I don't consider a 99 an alternative, thinking tube mag fed....you know, old school lever action. :)
 
the 358 is a rimless case
all model 94 or 1894 are rimed case
all model 92 or 1892 are rimed case

so limited to a bolt action or model 88 or a BLR
 
Yup, you want a WInchester model 94 Big Bore in 356 Win...I though there was one in the EE a few weeks ago....They are not that hard to find.....The Marlin 336 is the one that is rare with only 2000 or so made.....I just wacked a Mulie with mine yesterday (M94)
 
You could always re-barrel a lever in .308, like the Win 88 or the Savage 99. That way you could get the 16" barrel length as well. I think that would make a handy (if a little loud!) carbine for all sorts of hunting. Now you've got me thinking.....

And limit yourself to pathetically sparse flat nose bullets? Nah, if you're building a frankenlever then do it right and use a clapped out 99 in 308 as a donor.
 
The answer is obvious to a couple of us , if he wants a traditional tube fed, old school lever. Get a Winchester 94 Big Bore in .356 Win., AKA .358 Win. Rimmed.
 
I kinda went through this a while back too. Wanted something short, light and plenty of punch but capable of reaching out to 150 yards if required. Thought about 44 mag in a short barrel lever then figured the 358 might suit my need better. The only short barrel 358 I could come up with was a Ruger Frontier in 358 Win, 16.5" barrel...
I've since removed the quarter rib and have a Burris FastfireIII mounted on the Ruger receiver mounts. Light, handy, and pushes 200 grain bullets at 2400 over my chrono. Brass a'plenty, even Lapua if I neck it up. Good walkin gun with punch and not too much meat damage :)

My exact choice also, couldn't be happier with it....
 
You can look at the BLR compact take down in 358. P&D lists one on there site with a 18" Barrel. My 358 BLR Lam SS has a 20" which I think is pretty handy in the woods. Here's a pic of my gun...
 
There are plant of times I like a short barrelled lever
I have bin looking fore a chaippa 92 take down ,
I have a Chaippa take down in 357 mares leg and will be getting one in 44cal
It will make for a vary cool switch barrel lever
 
If the OP absolutely needs a tube mag perhaps another choice would be a Win 94 or Marlin in .375 Win. It may not have the punch of .358 but I would say it’s a potent close range round. Been a couple on EE lately.
 
I have unfortunately a Winchester model 88 in 358 , that some bubba cut the barrel down and tryed real awful bad to put a front sight on !!
It will have to be cut and crowned to about 16-17" and have a proper front sight installed again. This will become my wilderness carry rifle with a Lyman peep sight set up.
Please no more cutdowns with hacksaws:)!!
