Who makes a good starter kit for reloading

I guess it has a lot to do with deciding what you want it to do, I just bought the Rock Chucker kit this weekend and with my inexperience I could do about 40-50 an hour right now, more if I wasn't being as careful and I was just doing one single load. For automatic handguns progressive makes sense, but for rifle rounds that I plan to work up no more than twenty per load, a single stage is all I need. Just like you wouldn't buy a glock if you wanted to go deer hunting.

As I have posted (numerous times) I opted for the Hornady unit as it was a lower cost and with the "get loaded" program it was free.

NOW you say you saved the money using their "get loaded" program. So much for the charm and personality line that you tried to use on us before. :D

Think il go pick up a RCBS Rock Chucker Supreme Master Kit in the next month or so, seems like a good deal. Eveyones thinks its great too so thats a plus. What do i look for in dies , i need three per caliber right ? Going to start out doing 9mm or .45 , getting my first handgun this month so il have to see what caliber I end up with.

Lee anniversary kit

Are you going for speed or accuracy... how about the lee anniversary kit... I have them instock for $125, just add dies and your good to go.

If your looking for speed lee pro 1000's start at $200 and its a pretty decent starter kit comes with dies and everything you need to get going

Yep, thats how I got started 20 years ago. Everything you need except the dies.

They give you 1000 free bullets up to the same value is the press... pending you can find someone who can import them for you since they state on there website they will not send it to canada. Most dealer in canada will honour this just might take a while to get your free bullets...

Correct me if I am wrong but isnt this fellow looking for a press to load handgun ammo a single stage press like the RCBS will be brutally slow for handgun ammo.

Thats what I was thinking.........

Unless you add a Piggyback kit....

Which would end up costing almost as much as a 650.

Something does not make sense here.

Well handgun with a single stage press is...............challenging to say the least.

First you would have to instal the Decapper die..

Then you decap/resize all your brass.............say 100 rounds. Loading each one at a time into the holder and operating the press.

Then you need to dispense powder ONE AT A TIME again.

Then flare the case (unless you did that while adding powder) One at a time.

Then you need to place a bullet and seat it...

Again one at a time.

Then you need to crimp.............agaiun ONE At a time.

If you add it up you are handling each and every case up to FIVE times and operating the press FIVE times to make each and every round.

If you are only doing a few hundred rounds a year....no big deal.

If you are doing a few thousand rounds a year...

That ends up meaning plenty of "quality time" with your press I guess.
