who makes a high end rimfire?

If you want something with a high level of engraving, smooth action and almost unparalleled accuracy, Cooper can make a customized rifle for your friend. It wouldn't be too difficult to drop 10k on one of their custom guns. Many of their basic models start at $2000, and go way up when adding things like engraving and high grade walnut stocks.

This would be a great way to go. Coopers shoot very well and will likely become the Win 52 of today, in years to come.

If you want a German style kipplauf (break open single shot) similar to the Merkel you described why not contact one of the Ferlach gunmakers such as Fanzoj. They will make anything you want, and their single shot rifles are stunning works of art.

Or perhaps a round body double barrel .17 HMR by Peter Hofer would do, it weighs only 2.2 lbs

Apparently Hofer's guns start at about $200,000 although I don't know exactly how much the rimfire above would cost. I think that this proves that there are extremely hgh end rimfires out there for those who want them
