Who makes the best Alaskan rifle today?

The Kimber Montana is a pretty solid option. I like a bigger action to get my hands in and out of for loading, but they are sure nice to pack.

You have every right to be proud of your little girl... "If I knew nothing else about you, that would be enough."

honestly - for alaska general purpose - likely a Mossy 590 in under 18". But since you said rifle, I'd vote any of the stainless/laminate offerings of the Marlin 1895.

you will also like the mossy 940 turkey pro 18.5", 5 as fast as you can pull the trigger, 7 lbs, 4.5 lb trigger, adjustable stock, I just knocked it back to a little over 13" for handiness, about 38-39" oal depending on choke, I finally shot mine the other day with those challenger slugs(penetrate better than brenekke or truball deep penetrators, dgs-12 504 gr slugs around 1610fps), tested IC,M,F Carlson extended chokes...with the IC it was ragged hole to very tight little triangles for 3 shots at 40 yards, not much will take that to 100 yards, it has a sick little cut out for red dot also, mine using the holosun eps green mrs with just the green circle reticle, anything inside that circle will be turned into an instant fire hose
