Looking for a handy 30-30 with compact dimensions to allow for easy carry in the bush. I'm hoping to find one in the 1895 SBL/Trapper length but in 30-30.

Did Marlin offer short barreled 30-30's under Remington ownership? Do Henry/Winchester/Chiappa/Rossi etc offer anything comparable?

Not interested in anything with barrels longer than 18.5" and ideally a 36" max OAL.

Thanks

Marlin had a youth model with a 16inch barrel and shorter laminated stock. They pop up on the E.E. from time to time.

I'm looking for a full stock,16" barrel.

Looks like Henry and Winchester only offer 20" on the lower end. Not seeing anything from chiappa in 30-30.

Marlin might be the only option.

Henry builds the model X, but finding one is going to be fairly difficult, but I imagine the others will be as well. I'm sure you could pre order from someone. They have what I thought was a 17" barrel, but just looked them up and it is in fact 21 3/8" barrel. Weird, as the other model X are all short 16" barrels.

Winchester makes a 16" trapper version.

Chances are likely that the marlin youth guns Can-down mentions would take a regular full length stock. Honestly I've never seen one on the EE, but it's not really what I'm looking for usually.

Looks like Winchester made a 16" version at one point in the past too.

I was looking at those, it looks like Henry only offers the pistol carlbers in 16".

I saw the Winchester trapper on their website as well, looks to be discontinued.

I have a winchester 94 that was made in the early 50s with the 16 inch barrel and it has the saddle ring too
nice handy rifle for sure. I've yet to come across another one they must not be very common

HI, Had a Marlin-REM 16 inch youth short stock, bought new from EPPS. Nice concept, liked it. BUT it had 13 issues, sent it back and two weeks later a replacement firearm arrived. Shot it but was disappointed with it, put it into auction. Love Marlins but sadly this fat cow needed lots of help.
I thought I could solve the issues but under estimated Mar-Rem skill to screw up a good thing.

Until they start stamping barrels with the lengths what's stopping people from making there own trapper length.
Other than being illegal.

Same as all the short 10, 12,14 inch shotgun barrels....who can tell if it's factory or chopped
