Who MIGHT be interested in a Manurhin MR-73 revolver?

I'm thinking about importing one for myself, but I'm wondering if anybody else would be interested. There are no Canadian importers, and they are difficult to find. I just want to gauge interest. Still an idea at this point. I've seen them sell for anywhere between 1500 to 2300 USD factory new in other countries, and heard that the lead time can be up to a year.


What has me intrigued about MR-73's is:
-.8" 15-shot accuracy guarantee at 25meters
-Adjustible trigger (On a revolver!!?!?!???)
-Extreamly hard steel, able to widthstand double charges of .357
-hand made (requires 12 hours of handwork at the factory)

Nope, not for me.... If I want to spend that much on a wheelgun I'll go the S&W custom shop route.... Plus, in Canada, there's a place [MD Charlton] to get your S&W worked on. The Manhurin's would only "go" if there was competent in country warranty service available. Otherwise, it's just an expensive paperweight.... ;)

I think that I would be open minded in trying one depending on the cost of course.
Let me know the price and I will tell you if I'm in or not

Didn't the French gendarmerie recently replace these with semi's? Maybe there's a ####load of police surplus floating around for more resonable prices?

These have been imported into the country, as Century had them in their catalogue @1989-91.

IIRC there was one in the EE @6months ago...

I think NAA hit the nail on the head, it's the revolver support issue.

While Taurus is alive and well, the lack of decent product support (in Canada) puts them off my list (like they care but it matters to me).

No real pistol smiths working on Colt and Dan Wesson wheel guns in Canada makes me think twice about getting them to the collection. Would love to own either but repair/tuning makes me leery.

That said I do own a Llama Super Comanche in 44MAG (think S&W Model 29 with a Colt Python top rib) but didn't pay much for it. If it goes south I can always pistol whip someone if nothing else ;)
 
They are a extremely well built, very high quality and extremely accurate revolver. I had the pleasure and honour of handling and shooting one. I've never seen a revolver with such tight tolerances!!! I'm very interested in one but interest alone won't pay for it so it depends on the total cost and the initial deposit........:redface:

I don't buy firearms that would need servicing... ;)

The way these are built leads me to believe they are just about indistructable. 12 hours of hand assembly gives alot of time to prevent defects. Not like revolvers in general have too many problems, the designs are not as complicated as a semi-auto for example.
 
funny that this thread is posted now, i recently saw a french movie called MR-73 didn't watch all of it though. kinda sucked...

If one came along for the right price (affordable and not in the S&W Custom Shop pricing zone) it would likely get a primo spot in the collection.

Bullsh*t! Revolvers are far more complicated than autos. The accuracy guarantee is great, but for how long? Until the cylinder needs timing? Sorry, its an over priced dinosaur.

MR 73 is actually a very good movie. It is a very sad movie though. I have read that the movie is named like this because MR-73 used to be a standard police issue revolver in France.
 
I fall into the "I'd be interested, but..." camp. I'd like to have one of the 9mm revolvers, but the present cost is just beyond my ability.
