...today I finally got my electric fencer operating, although I've seen more and more sign that they have been checking out the orchard and should have gotten to it weeks ago. An eight foot wildlife fence, 10,000 volts, and my rifle keep me busy this time of the year. We're still a week from harvest. We're now the only farm in the region that has apples on it. There were orchards here years ago but these are all now defunct. Our apples are U of SK numbered varieties. Anyone else use old apple orchards as a platform for bear hunting? ...or have planted apples or pears for wildlife? We're far enough north that we don't get an apple crop every year because of late/early frosts but this year it's looking good. :)

There is an old abandoned orchard a few miles from here, I have never been able to time it right.

I've planted a few crabapples and plums for a place to hunt when I am old.

Not exactly used as bait, but I remember training in the army in New Brunswick when our stupid officer thought an apple orchard was a good place o camp for the night.

Did a bear come? Yes.

Did my buddy and I who were on guard duty say anything when he showed up? - no

Was quite funny at the time, but someone could have been hurt.

My defence -we were only 17
