Who retails duracoat

Same here. ordered few and it seems to be little on expensive side tho. But they do ship it to canada. I'd recommand getting your own air brush since their package things sucks real bad.

Any pics of the finished product? Just wondering if the average user with no experience with this kind of stuff can actually apply this product and make it look decent...

Posted this rifle few weeks ago on other thread but here it is.

I have no aptitude when it comes to this sort of thing, and I painted 2 870's last year, results were great. I second the advise about getting an airbrush and compressor from another source.

Nice work! Thanks for the pics.

How do you find has the coat been holding up? I know it's duracoat so it's supposed to last but I've seen it actually scratch/wear down quite a bit on some guns. Not sure if that was due to poor application of the coat tho or if that is normal for the product...

If you take time to do lots of sanding as a prep, you will be just fine.
Some people just scratch the surface and whipe down with degreaser and apply. They won't last long if not prepped right

I ordered from Lauer. Not cheap on shipping because it's dangerous goods. If you search duracoat for my daughter you'll see photos of my little girls birthday present. The stuff stinks and I mean STINKS. Use outside or under a vent hood. Great finish if you follow the directions.

I forgot, use the degreaser. Use it like a fire hose. You'll have much better results on clean parts. And put Vaseline in any holes like the pin holes in an AR receiver. Saves you from having to remove finish later to allow parts to fit.

Can anyone recommend an airbrush starter kit that is good for finishing firearms? I would like to try my hand at detail work as well as simply coating... Never used an airbrush, but I've used automotive sprayers.. Any advice would be appreciated.

The best thing to do would be going to a reputable hobby shop. I went to a local hobby shop in my area and was set up perfectly. A lot of the guys know there stuff when it comes to air brushing and they will have lots of different kits in stock. I paid $85 for my kit and it works beautiful. I bought one that has a regulator you can attach to a regular compressor. I didn't have to buy one strictly for airbrushing. Play around with it first on some scrap metal. You will need to make adjustments and get the hang of it. Another option is paying a pro to paint it for you. The hobby shop i dealt with had a guy do some work for me cheap. Good luck!

If your "local" to the GTA, ON, then give TacOrd a shout, he uses Gun-Kote which is baked on, very tough, and his work is "top shelf"
He knows shotguns BTW.
