Well, I brought this cheap Savage (on sale) 270 win from Wholesale sports:

Come with 3x9 scope and base, not bad for a bargain rifle. right? $379

Here in Ontario we need low power scopes, so I put on a 1.5x4.5 scope on it. $80.

First time handloader found the best load. Priceless

Sorry friend, but if that was shot at 100Y, then that is average.

You consider 1/2" groups "average" for a hunting rifle? Cooper rifles are roughly 4X the cost and guarantee 1/2" groups, so I'd say he's doing damn well for the money spent!

There is no difference. He bought a Stevens 200. Best bang for the buck in both worlds. OR you could buy a Remmy 700 and throw away the stock and throw away the barrel, replace both for another $800 and $1500 later, you too can shoot like an out-of-the-box Savage. Good stuff. With a little more experimenting with reloads, you will shoot sub-moa with little to no effort.

(Puts on fire suit). Flame away Remmy fans!!!:D

its a savage that says it all right there.

before ym stevens 200 was moded to suit my tastes it would do 1 moa consistantly and on good days pushthe 1/2 moa mark, this from a $300 rifle with a tasco scope. you cant beat the out of the box performance of the stevens/Savage rifles for the price you pay.

Who pissed in your cornflakes this morning?

Its been said before and I'll keep it going... Savage is leading the way with out of the box accuracy for what we pay for them.

Good shooting, by the way.

I'll bite at this one: Here's a 5 shot 100yard group from my POS/cheap/bad stock/crappy trigger/junky barrel Remington that I shot about 2 hrs ago.

To the original poster: Nice groups and nice rifle.

"Precision rifle".... a term that is defined about as well as "sports car"

How precise does it need to be? If you're competing in bechrest or F-class, it isn't going to win unless it is VERY precise and consistent in strings of 10-20 rounds. If you're hunting, shooting varmints or targets of interest and opportunity it will do fine to shoot ~.5 moa groups, and that is "precise" enough.

I guess if I were to paint a picture of how to define a precision rifle is, it would be one that has been tweaked to extract every possible millimeter of accuracy.

In summary, you have a very accurate factory rifle that can shoot five rounds in a hair under .5 MOA and you've certainly gotten good value for your money!

Trolling again are we? Either that or you clearly don't have a clue what you're talking about. And just so you don't think this is some kind of Savage vs "The World" comment, then try this. Take a Stevens 200 and a Savage 12 FV in similar cartridges and compare them both.

Neither rifle adequately adapts well to situatons where it another rifle can do the job much easier than the other.

Use your head.
