who shoots 284 Win?

The .284 is likely my favorite cartridge. It shoots any bullet weight at least as fast as the .270 and in a very accurate, short package. I'd happily use it as my only BG gun.

Lots of old wives tales about it, but like most things, the reality is much better.

It is the original WSM... just 40 yrs earlier than the named cartridges

Yes I have been very pleased with it so far, I am pushing it at 2785fps with the 180 Lapua Scenar out of the Stiller with a 28" barrel. Working on some loads with the 168 Berger Classic Hunting bullet, haven't locked that one down yet but hoping for 2900ish out my boys rifle with a 24" barrel.

It is a great round that is easy to load for, there are literally TONS of bullets available for it, great brass can easily be found in Winchester, Lapua, Norma and I am sure there are others, and recoil is mild if not a bit snappy. And those 7mm bullets seem to be so slippery they just hang in there a long ways out there.
 
Afew years ago I had my 7 mm mag out in the back yard crono'ing some loads that were reading at 3200 fps. The old man brought his .284 out with some loads he had just loaded the night before. He shot 3 thu the screens and go a reading of 3150....only 50 fps slower than my 7. I don't remember what load I was using but his was a 149 gr slug.
 
Reloader 17 will produce higher velocities in a 284 win. I was getting over 2900 fps with 154 gr hornady bullets, and thats from a 20" barrel. I have a winchester m70 EW chambered in 7-08, that i'm thinking of rebarreling to 284 win with a 24" tube.
 
3000fps can be easily had with a 139/140gr. bullet.

My first .284 barrel was a 4 land take off from a Parker Hale. I would get 3080fps, from it's 22.5"bbl.

My new Gailliard 24" gets me around 3040fps with 139/140's.

Kills deer about as dead as you'd like, to at least 380yds(furthest I've ever killed a deer with the .284)
