I'm curious as to whether any others on the forum use a Mauser M12 ?

I got an M12 standard in 30-06 in a trade a couple of years ago and really like it. The rifle handles beautifully, the feeding and ejection are flawless, the trigger is great, and accuracy is excellent as well. The ergonomics and handling really are excellent, although I do plan do shorten the stock as the factory length of pull is 14.25 inches is too long when i'm wearing winter clothing.

The barrel is press fit into the receiver, so rebarreling is not a practical option. I do think that this is a valid criticism, although its not a deal breaker for me, as I doubt I or my son will ever shoot out the bore of a 30-06 hunting rifle.

My rifle has factory iron sights and a Recknagel weaver rail. The irons are quite good and I can shoot 2 inch groups at 100 yards with them. When I'm hunting from a stand I use a Zeiss Victory Ht 3-12x56 illuminated reticle scope in Leupold QRW rings. If I'm still hunting I use an Aimpoint 9000L, also in Leupold QRW rings.

I do still enjoy other deer rifles (Pre 64 Win 94 in 32 spl, Brno ZG-47 in 30-06, etc.) but I think the Mauser M12 is really a great hunting rifle.

How much are M12s now? It is over $2K in synthetic, is it not?

Very few people would take that over Sako or anything factory for that price.

Tikka shoots under an MOA for half a price. Savages, X-bolts, CZs, Kimbers - there are a lot of great choices to pass on before you even hit over $2k level.

A Tikka will outshot an $80 000 H&H double too, it's doesn't mean a Tikka is better. Accuracy is one of a long list of important features of a hunting rifle.

I've never had the chance to handle a M12, the thought of a Mauser with budget type features rubs me the wrong way, but I bet they do it quite well.

Good to hear the thoughts of an owner with a couple years experience.

I've handled Sauer 101, which is a very close twin brother of M12. It was not savage axis for sure, but I can't really say if it was any better than Sako Black Bear in synthetic.

I don't think they are bad rifles, just not for the price. At $1200 it would be tempting, as $2500 not so much.
