who shoots in the winter?

Shot when it was around -20, made it easier to spot the swirl.

As it has been brought up on this thread, the barrel cools down a lot quicker.
 
Barrel cooling is awesome in the winter! Yesterday was the first time I have shot long range in the winter (as I have just bought the rifle) and had a great time. I was really suprised how the cold (-20 by the days end) wasn't a big deal. Planning on going again this weekend and testing some more loads.

Nice breathing... Nice group heh... 300 meters is not long range...

I like the ice fishing tent idea... Maybe a herman nelson heater on the firing line would help on the REALLY cold days... There's a gentleman local here who is building an enclosed cargo trailer complete with toolbox, reloading press, shooting table, an ATV for setting up and checking targets, door flaps to shoot through and a furnace! He even bought a truck to specifically pull it out to the range and back. Now that is preparation!! Doesn't even have to hook up or drop the trailer! One day.... One day.... ;)

Thats just the range I do load development at. After I finished with paper I shot my 12" plate at 600m and was hoping to move to 1000m but it was to dark at that point :(
 
I have a gun shack with heat and air cond. so I shoot year round up to 400 yards. Loading bench, gun safe,benchrest; the works. Great for load development. I only need a remote camera at the target line but not sure how it would handle the cold. I even shot a magpie at the 200 yard line one day. I had just finished a .204 sighting in when it landed on the backstop. POOF! I also hunt most every day for coyotes.
 
I'm like a lot of others here...
Lots of shooting in the winter and fall. Some in the spring if its not too muddy and as far as summer...I will go weeks without even entering the gunroom!
 
I would if I could find somewhere in southern ontario. Outside of Toronto. Hate having been born in the city.
 
I Shoot all year around. Love it too much not too!

If its too cold, I cocentrate on developing load trials and figure out new ideas/projects.
When the weather is nice I shoot my load trials and projects. Its a shame to waste good weather!

I shoot year around but you have to love the winter and fresh snow ..fill milk jugs with water and add food color ...set them up at a lot of different ranges from 100 to 500 yards ...you can allways tell when you hit a jug ....and see the miss in the snow ...great fun
 
i shoot year round, shot in -17 last time out with my wife and had a great time. its a nice time of year to shoot the enfield as there are multiple layers of clothes to eat the recoil, lol. i think i prefer to shoot in the spring and fall just because its a little cooler out and the bugs arent out.
