Yeah baby
Id like to try to make an appearance at the shoot this year but I don't have a 308 and apparently there is no one in the open class - and I'm sure I'd be outa my league there anyway. I do have a model 12 savage lrp in 260 rem that I have been thinking about swapping the barrel on. Just looking to see what other newbie tactical guys have used. Seems like a detachable box mag is the way to go if possible. Who has used what and how did it work out for you or do you tactical shooters have any suggestions
Thanks

There may very well be some open shooters this year! I'm sure your .260 would be good to go if you wanted to shoot in open. Failing that any old .308 should be pretty competitive. My partner and I both shoot .308s and do well enough. They are just so easy to make shoot well! Box mags are a bonus but there isn't any rule saying your partner can't help you reload. Makes spotting properly a little difficult but its all part of the fun.
Whatever you decide get your ass out there and practice. I would say a guy that has a ####ty rifle but practices with it is going to do much better than a guy that has an expensive rifle but doesnt know how to work it.

What He Said.....:D

If I show up its going to be with my 243 VLS and as Longshot said....lets have fun.
Cheers

Thanks guys, I decided to get a 308 barrel put on my 260 as I didn't think there would be anyone in the open class. So if all goes well with schedules and what not I hope to make it out this year. I have gone through the course of fire and have a general idea of how many rounds get fired but how many do you guys bring? Factory or hand loads ?
Thanks

GrensVegter won this year shooting GMM 168s. Either should work fine depending what your new barrel likes. Looks like your in for a bit of testing! As for round count check the course of fire the add perhaps another 50-100 for zeroing depending on how confident you are in your skills.

If I can make it I'll be shooting my 6.5x47 Lap.

You should enter and use your 260 - it will be a good experience. If I can make it, I'll be shooting a 6XC gas-gun which puts me into open class also and makes me not eligible for any of the main prizes. This competition is one of the best going on the West Coast but is a little unusual because of its military caliber requirements. A lot of similar matches especially down south are unlimiting in terms of caliber choice, and the 260 is one of the more popular ones used. It's a great match though and you'll have lots of fun.

Sure. If you think you can get 5 good offhand shots out of it. ;)

Tho', you might find it a little stressful single loading each round in some of the matches, the quick popups sometimes don't leave a lot of time between shots.

But there's no running and jumping; in fact, Ryan will likely help you get down on your mat if you ask nicely. :)

Hello,

The reason for the calibre restriction is two fold
1) we do not want an equipment race as we have in F class ( open)
Where a wallet can influence an outcome based on wonder calibers ,actions ,scopes etc

2) to continue seeing the military and law enforcement competitors we have to honor the fact that they shoot issued equipment ie rifles ,scopes, and ammunition and would potentially be at a Balistic disadvantage by allowing wonder calibers( lighter recoil, flatter trajectories , better wind bucking characteristics ) to go head to head with issued calibers . A number of years back there was a real schism between F class shooters( I was F class director at the time ) and Tac shooters , that was absolutely divisive in fact it got so bad at one point that a shooter that traveled all the way from Mannitoba with a .260
Was told by the then Tac directors that he could not shoot the match with his rifle , not just in a certain class but at all-while FClass people were regularly shooting typical FClass cartridges on the Range ,another was told he could not compete because he had a single shot rifle ( his score wouldn't count -he was in essence just practicing and or wasting powder )- so in an effort to maintain credibility with both factions ,two distinct classes were set up so that everybody interested in competing could do so, and further more to prevent a loss of real world credibility a limit was placed on calibers that could be employed in the military / police division thus giving real world working snipers ( police / Military )a fair opurtunity to test themselves - some flexibility re equipment is given to both civilians ( allowed to shoot hand loaded ammunition instead of factory ammo). and law enforcement / military can use suppressors ( must stay on rifle from first stage to last - mirage is a ##### of a hot can ) ok so with all that rambling I guess the short answer is that we had to come up with a compromise that allowed the greatest number of participants to compete .... Ok my eye is spent from this screen so I will end it there.

I was worried about that, :adult: but I'll try anything ( to a point ) . at leaset once and go from there .;):D

Cheers

Thanks Ed for explaining the rationale behind the rules. It makes sense to me. If things work out, I very much look forward to attending.

If you are in fact using a mat...you'll get no love from me! ;) Get in the dirt and enjoy it!

Remember guys this is not an F-class match at military targets. You will shoot from sitting kneeling and standing. Your targets will be there for three second and then gone. They will also be moving. They will be wedged in between two hostages. At times you will have to pick the right target to shoot at and if you(or your spotter) picks the wrong one you can easily end up with zero for a score.
I've shot at many of these types of matches all over the place and believe me this is not only the fairest match around but also the one that will test YOU instead of your caliber. And that is what is so great about it!
Shoot it with whatever rifle you have. You WILL get a trip to the prize table guaranteed. You just wont be the first up which may not matter anyways because most often the guns and other high end prizes get raffled anyways.
I don't know how many time I can say it.One trip to this match and your addicted. Zero attitude, zero ego.Just a bunch of like minded guys and gals having fun and BSing.
You won't be dissapointed!
