who still uses a 303 for deer/bear/moose/coyotes I have a really nice Churchill 303 (IT'S ON THE EE) and its a shame to leave it in the safe year after year, I have lots trouble shooting a 30-06, limbsaver pad didn't help and not going to use a brake. I can shoot this 303 a fair amount before it starts to bother me, its that or 6.5 creedmoor, a friend has a Remington 788 in 308 which I can shoot, but already own the 303, just looking for people experiences hunting with a 303, what distance can this caliber take a moose, it will have a bushnell elite 3200 3-9x40 or a leupold freedom 3-9x40 can't decide on which to use lol

I have killed moose and deer with the .303 British. I have always shot 174 grain Hornady soft points in reloads. I think the .303 British cartridge is one of the very best eastern whitetail cartridges. It has the balance of adequate power and little meat damage. The two moose I shot with the .303 were both 1 shot deals. One @ 35 yards and one @ 125 yards. Ranges on the deer I have shot run from 12 yards to 325 yards. Some took follow up shots but that was due to poor first shot placement. Handloaded with good 150 grain bullets it can out class the .300 Savage and is about equal to the .308 Winchester in performance. In a nice sporter it is still hard to beat as a hunting rifle. Accessories would include a Lee Loader in .303 British a perfect match for the calibre.

Agreed it is a perfect deer round to 200 yards. My father has taken a pile of moose with his JC as well.

the biggest pet peeve is the scope rings, mine rifle has weaver dovetail base and the scope is really high and I have been looking for awhile for some good very low rings and can't find any

I love the caliber!

I did a bit of work to a P-14 a few years ago. It turned out better than anticipated! Lol!
Shoots significantly better than I ever dreamed!

Keep the 303, and use it.

My No.4 is my main hunting rifle for large game, it’s a pleasure hunting with it. It would be weird to hunt with something else, my only negative for me is it’s a right handed action but there’s not much I can do about that now is there lol. I can’t afford to do the max minute anyway.

I shot a 303 British only once in my life, of course, with the Lee Enfield. What I recollect the most is that the trigger had a mile of creep and likewise for the over-travel, recoil was quite mild.

I have a beater PH No1 deluxe sporter, it's nice and light, shoots well with the PH irons, not d&t'd.
It's an odd one though, has the nice PH polished blue on most of it still, but a lot of pitting on the right side of receiver that was blued over. Looks original, just odd they would let one out so rough.
