Who stocks the mossberg 590a1?

Are true 590A1s even available to civilians? It has been my understanding the model we can purchase is a look-a-like. It is actually a regular production line 500 with the aluminium safety, aluminium trigger guard, mag tube and heavy barrel of the 590A1s. True 590A1s actions are built to the tighter mil-spec tolerances are they not?

I believe all those differences are what adds up to a 590a1 and not just a 500.

In response to the original question SFRC a site sponsor has them.

Thanks gentlemen, sadly they are all sold out. SFRC has exactly what I am looking for but too are out of stock.

There is a 590 Special Purpose and a 590A1. Both are legal for sale to the civilian market. The 590A1 is not built any tighter as this would be detrimental to reliability, but the trigger group housing is made out of steel rather than plastic. My SP has seen some pretty tough conditions, and the plastic trigger guard has proven to be pretty close to indestructible, and I don't see how a steel trigger guard would be an improvement. Thus far I haven't dented the barrel or magazine, although the muzzle has been scuffed on rocks.

That clears things up. The rear sight-hood profiles were mysteriously different. I just thought the A1 just changed them over the years. Now I know.
I have a 500 Field. Excellent shotgun for the money. Actually, an excellent shotgun.
It would be nice to be able to purchase the original 590A1 barrel and tube magazine though along with the furniture. The receivers are identical for all models I believe but I could be wrong about this.

you're referring to the different sight set-up between the 590A1, 590A1 SPX and the 590A1 Blackwater. All three of those have different sight set-ups.

So which of the three ghost sights are the best? One has a rail, thats a bonus, but I'll mostly be using irons. Anyone have all 3, or tried all 3 sights?

does the Blackwater version of the 590A1 have the metal triggerguard, safety and other 590A1 features, or is it somehow watered down?
the mall-ninja Blackwater logo/endorsement is a big turnoff for me, but i must admit that the additional features in the package such as the XS sights and Fab Defense-style forend are attractive. you could not put together a standard 590A1 with those features for $550. so as long as there have been no other sacrifices to build quality, it seems like an OK deal.

Yes, the BW version has the metal trigger guard(and other 590A1 features). I also find the BW logo cheesy and may have it removed.
The XS sights and Fab defense grip work great but I removed the 2 side rails because I kept jamming my thumb during recoil.
It's a lot of shotgun for what I paid ($535+HST) IMO.
20" HEAVY WALL BBL, FIXED CYL CHOKE, PARKERIZED FINISH, BLACKWATER LOGO, SPEEDFEED STOCK, TRI RAIL FORE END, XS GHOST RING SIGHT & RAIL, 8-SHOT TUBULAR MAGAZINE, METAL TRIGGER GUARD, ACCESSORY LUG, SWIVEL STUDS, RECOIL PAD

awesome, ty.
few more questions:

1. where did you buy it?
2. is the front sight indexed perfectly? there are some disturbing reports of recent mossbergs having cockeyed front XS sights.
3. is the rear ghost ring thats embedded in the rail adjustable? does it feel flimsy? how does it compare to something like the 870 Scattergun Tech/Wilson Combat rear GR sight, or the LPA ones on some Mossbergs and Benellis? naturally its not going to be AS good since its a small sight thats part of a rail, but is it a flimsy POS thats going to snap off the first time you drop the gun? does it index fine with the front sight? it LOOKS too low.

thanks in advance :)

few more questions:

1. where did you buy it? Epps
2. is the front sight indexed perfectly? there are some disturbing reports of recent mossbergs having cockeyed front XS sights.I hand picked mine so it's straight
3. is the rear ghost ring thats embedded in the rail adjustable? does it feel flimsy? I think it can be removed from the rail but don't think its adjustable and it does not feel flimsyhow does it compare to something like the 870 Scattergun Tech/Wilson Combat rear GR sight, or the LPA ones on some Mossbergs and Benellis?Sorry, but I not familiar with these.

Hope this helps...

I'm in the same boat with the blackwater 590A1. I went with this model for the XS sights, which was worth it. They are fast. I'm also thinking about what I want to do with the logo. If its possible to remove it I may do that, otherwise I think I'm just going to paint the whole thing to cover it up.

i think youll just ruin any resale value by trying to remove the logo.
if you want to get rid of it just take a can of matte black Krylon and dust the receiver with it. if you sell it and the new owner wants the logo back you can just strip off the krylon easily.
im not ecstatic about the logo but it wouldnt be enough to make me get the shotgun refinished over. its not that big of a deal :)

I think it can be removed from the rail but don't think its adjustable
:(

I took a closer look at the rear sight last night. It's dove-tailed onto a mount which is screwed into the rail. The sight has two small screws (one on each side) which probably is for windage adjustments.
