Who the Heck still makes a good gun ?

I am not sure, but the Remington issues may have been blown out of proportion a bit. That being said, if I was buying a new hunting rifle today, it would be either a CZ or Ruger.

Definitely blown out of proportion.

The Remington 700 is still the best LIGHTWEIGHT action made.
If you want a mountain rifle that doesn't have disposable plastic parts this is your gun.

The Winchester and Ruger are fine if you don't mind another 1/2+ pounds.
When you factor in the length of the Ruger action I think it is grossly overweight.
Ruger has good QC although the ring system blows.
I'm not sure why, but I have seen several that were severely misaligned.
Ruger would be my second choice.

I think quality of guns have improved significantly over the 45 years I have been involved in the sport. Currently I would say Savage produces the best gun in the under $1000 class.

Ruger, Remington, Cooper, CZ, Dakota, Shiloh Sharps, C. Sharps, CPA CORP., Not much plastic there, and all but CZ are made in N.A.

Owned 2 savages, An Edge ( cheapo ) and a Euro Classic ( highest end hunting rifle)
I sold the Edge, only because I saw a great price on a Tikka in 25-06. I still own the Classic, its a 30-06. Both had no issues.
While I dislike the plastic on my Tikka. It has great fit, and a bolt slicker than an eel in an oil drum. I also have a pre plant closure Marlin that is accurate and smooth.

Heres the Classic: Not bad for a production rifle under $1000

now that every gun maker has been named it seems to bring to mind the thread topic.. which guns are crap.. my ruger was a gabage cast actions, brownings stocks feel like cardboard with vanire, tikka well tikka hmmm to slick on the feed, remington well they seem like a work horse but getter done, savage good ol' accurate savage just don't hunt dangerous close game.. red rider well that there is a 5 star gun which can be brought grizzle hunting and never fail.. 1000000 round barrel life amazing just amazing

I love my Remington 700 Mountain. It is about 5 years old but I can't think of anything I resent about it. Well, maybe that stupid "J" key thingy. ;)

Sako, Browning, Sauer

Come to think of it, Uberti make a nice piece of equipment if you like lever guns.

had me lots of over priced fancy guns now im almost all remmys cant beat them cheap, shoot good, lots of after market stuff around

As long as you use a Remington you'll be fine.

Why are you looking at the rifle. You should be looking at what the rifle does, how it groups how you shoot it.

Why did I first choose Remington, because it fit me the best.

As I have stated before it's not the arrow it's the Indian. Almost all new rifles can out shoot the guy behind it, we are the weak link in the equation.
