Who uses binoculars for hunting?

Sadly ANOTHER person was shot while hunting right around where I live, this time the person did not survive. It was on the news last night. That makes 3 people that were shot withing 1/2 hour of here. WTF?

Another thing to think about, no piece of equipment can make up for poor judgement and stupidity.

Should be Manditory

have not read the thread cause it is huge but Binos are a must just to prevent scoping if nothing else!:50cal:

Anyone who doesn't have a pair of binoculars and has a scope mounted rifle will more than likely use the scope to identify objects. Anyone who uses a scope to identify objects is an idiot and should be taken out and publicly flogged.

I have never shot game because I used binoculars. Usually, I spot the game with naked eye, then, if I have the time, use the binoculars for further study.

I just ordered a pair of Nikon 8x40 AE WP and was wondering who uses binos for hunting and what kind do you use? I've had a small pair forever but never seemed to used them because they are not eye glasses friendly. These new ones are supposed to be very good if you are impaired like me.:D

I have a set of leupolds, but my favorite is a set of Becks Kassels from Austria , made in 1966.

Adjusting binox

most people don't know how to PROPERLY adjust the binocs

Amazing but so true!

I was recently over at an old friend's looking a his expensive new Swarovskys. He is 77 years old. He was in the air force and claims he used binox all the time he was in. He has owned binox and hunted his entire adult life. I tried out his new Swaros and the were so far out of adjustment no sighted person would get a clear image in them. I explained how to adjust them, he argued and disagreed then reluctantly followed my directions, then was absolutely amazed at what he saw! He's been looking thru mis-adjusted binox for 60 years.

Its quite interesting to pick up other people's binox and look thru them. Its amazing how many are way out of wack. One funny misconception that results from watching too much TV is that you should see two round images overlapping in the center instead of one just one round image, this leads many people to mis-adjust the inter-pupillary distance.

I see what you're saying, but I don't think that's a given. That not having binoc's means you'll be swinging a load rifle around scoping unidentified objects. At least not in my case. I don't raise my rifle until I've identified my target. What's got me thinking I'd like binoc's is that they might help me see more game and earlier.

I have the discontinued 10x42 Wind Rivers. They have seen 10 years of hard use and yet are still going strong.

I can't wait tho.......when Davey get's his Leica's he says I get to have his old beat up Swarovskis......lol

One day I will get a set of Leica 10x??? I love the huge exit pupils they have, so forgiving to look through and sharp as a razor.

I might ad I agree with the comment they should be mandatory equipment for hunting. I have had the pleasure of being scope a couple times and after talking to the guy behind the gun coming away scared for my life. Both times I was wearing red too! I wouldn't doubt he had his finger on the trigger trying to make antlers appear on my head.

That could ruin ones day.

Leica Ultravids on the way, but I still think you will have to pry my SLC's from my cold dead hands :p
